Bed of Nails is crafted as an American ode to a traditional English brown. A light hop addition balances the natural sweetness present in the specialty malt. This beer’s delicate body and dry finish allow flavors of toffee and dark fruit to shine through.

A hopped-up English brown, with hopped-up being relative to a normal English brown ale. Plenty of chocolate and Brit yeastiness, too much, actually, resulting in a wort-ish, home brew-leaning brown with a firm, bitter finish. Thin texture, and not a pretty beer. Eh.

8 week old bottle > stemless glass A: Pours a short yellow tan head atop a hazy mahogany body. Sort retention with a little lace. S: Bitter chocolate with a little caramel. T: Sweet and roasty at once. Then bitter chocolate with faint prune and roast lingering. M: Medium body with low soft carbonation. Ashy finish. O: Pretty good if a bit strong, with nice flavor complexity. Well worth buying if you like the style.

Sample at the taproom. Hazy brown color with some ruby around the edges and a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of malt, toffee and fruit. Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, toffee and ripe fruit. The finish is sweet with a roasty malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Clear brown body with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet, nutty malts. The flavor is lightly sweet with the hop bitterness being there just enough to keep the sweetness in balance. Decent Brown Ale.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Bruisin' Ales, 1/12/15

Aroma: The nose is fairly light, on the sweet side, some toffee, caramel, and a little chocolate
Appearance: It pours a lighter brownish color with a tan head and some drippy lacework
Flavor: The taste is on the sweet side for sure, fairly malty, with a minimal amount of bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, kind of sticky, a little thin, and with a fairly short duration
Overall Impression: This wasn't a favorite for me, it is just too sweet and lacks any semblance of balance. It isn't undrinkable or anything, but it is fairly forgettable.
