Rich dark brown coloured body with a thin tan head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of alcohol, resin, toasted malt, oats, grain and a bit of astringent hops. Medium-bodied; Strong rich malty flavours with earth, toffee, caramelised sugars and a quite a bit of alcohol all noticeable. Strong biting hoppy flavours with a nice bitterness, alongside a bit of a grainy and almost rye-flavoured pungency, along with a dose of metal, hints of grass and a finish of sugars - from caramel. Aftertaste shows the pungency of the hops, a good biting bitterness and a sweet tail end with the cereal and grain showing through at the tail end. Overall, a nice beer with a ton of rich flavours and a relatively smooth complexity toward the finish. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (P Street, Logan Circle), DC on 04-October-2014 for US$9,99 sampled at home in Washington on 19-February-2017. Bottle at the second 42nd Floor tasting - Thanks Leighton. It pours clear deep brown with a thick yellow-tan head. The nose is toasty, fresh citrus, grapefruit, soapy lemon, rye bread, cracker and some cocoa. The taste is bitter, toasted brown bread, earth, cracker, mild cardboard, cheap coffee grounds and some alcohol heat with a dry, toasted finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Didn’t really stand out from the crowd. A pretty average hoppy dark beer.

Bottle, 22oz. A hazy, brown beer topped by a dense, light beige head of moderate size. The aroma is on the malty side, with piney, resiny hops and a lovely malty touch. Cocoa, as well as roasted malts, some dark sugar, toffee and a bready hint. The flavor has a nice bitterness to deal with the malty sweetness there is. In fact it’s quite dry, with a nice carbonation level. Full body. Roasted malts, bread, nuts, some brown sugar and chocolate in the flavor, with a piney touch as well. Lasting finish. Pretty wonderful this one, should be in the regular lineup I think. 150606
