Bottle picked up from the brewery taproom bermondsey. An attractive dark black brown coloured pour with a lasting well proportioned khaki head. Aroma is rich piney hop, resin dry earthy roast, well black ipa vibes, grass, spicy hop, liquorice. Flavour is composed of super rich layered dark malts, singed pine, tar, liquorice. It doesn't get much better than this. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, delicate airy bubbles.. Supurb.

Bottle. Waitrose. Packaged May 26 and 5.9%. Nearly black. Slim dense glossy lacing lasting beige foam. Nose has robust ashy gritty dark chocolate malts. Orange peel. Chocolate orange. There’s almost a woody character here. Like a BA stout thing. Whiff of minty herb. There’s some stuff happening here. Taste is super bitter, very dry with just a whisper of malt sweetness. Big depth. Smooth and slightly slick. Big bitter finish. Fuck. Must be the tastiest beverage on offer in any UK supermarket ever.

On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Black colour, tan head. Aroma and flavour of roast malts and piney American hops. Noticeable bitterness. Decent beer.

The hoppy porter game is pretty much over - Kernel won. The flavour profile, the texture, the balance - it’s all there. Creamy chocolate, ashy roast, orange peel, oily pine. Sublime.
