Bottled at Vastactiv tasting May 2026.
The beer poured black in color.
Heavy on the smoke, peaty and woody with roasted malta and tobacco in the nose as well. Quite heavy overall.

Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours darkest brown to black with a small, bubbly tan head. The aroma is dark and decadent, rich roasted malt, dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, bitter - sweet character, cacao nibs, umami, liquorice, soft smokey embers, smoked ham, slightly medicinal, gateaux and whisky soaked oak. The taste is smooth upfront, bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, loads of dried fruits, raisin, sultana, fig, date, cherry, fruit cake, slightly charred, umami, whisky soaked oak, touch of medicinal character, wee puff of smoke and well integrated alcohol with a dangerously smooth finale. Fulsome body (but not heavy), average carbonation and smooth mouth feel. Nicest Struise I've had in while.

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with short tan head. Aromas of licorice, soft peat/iodine, chocolate nougat, and roasted malts. Flavors of bitter dark chocolate, licorice, oak, whiskey alcohol, acidic peat, and roasted malts. Seems a bit thin, but that may be the whiskey alcohol. But otherwise very good.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Nose has plenty of iodine, not as much peat as expected given 5 years in an Islay barrel, with restrained toasted malt at the core as per the base. Flavour is more aggressive, with intense smoky peated whiskey barrel, plenty of roast, nice boozy kick, and even still some hoppy bitterness poking through after all these years. Fairly aggressive Islay, but the base beer is so mild for an imperial stout that it doesn’t come across brutal at all. Excellent.

A black beer, a head is medium and light brown. Aroma has liquorice, roastness, light caramel and salt liquorice, also some peat. Taste has more barreling, peat, salt liquorice, roastiness. Almost full bodied, not stickyness. The barreling is balanced, very good.

Bottle thanks to Stuu. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of chocolate, leather and faint whisky. For 5 years in a peated whisky barrel you'd expect a bit more smoke and iodine. Taste has a hint. Dark chocolate and roast. Light seaweed.

Bottle thanks to Stuu.
Appearance - deep brown to black and opaque. Thin beige head.
Nose - faint iodine and wood barrel note but with not much of the expected Islay peat smoke.
Taste - saline again, and now some peat with chocolate and dry wood.
Palate - medium to full bodied, dry roast and woody finish.
Overall - good if not as smoky as expected.
