Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yards’ Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. It’s delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style.

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 14 Sep 2018) Hazy golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, herbal nose with dried fruit, peaches, soft malt and herbs. Malty, spicy taste with notes of bread, grass, hay, citrus and a balanced herbal bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. On the sweet side for a saison, but tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.

On tap at Rocky Hill Inn in Rocky Hill, NJ. Slightly hazy amber gold color. Small creamy white head. Zesty, Sweet malt aroma has yeasty overtones. First sip brings tangy sweet maltiness. Some banana esters. Bready notes as well. Some spiciness in finish. Very good interpretation of the style.

On tap at Jet Rock at PHL (after a connecting flight...I admit that all beers I have ever rated seem to get an extra +0.2 just for the fact that Jet Rock is the best non-tied-house craft beer bar in an airport). Also, the actual beer ratings by me are pretty lame. Hazy honeycomb yellow-orange with full white head and amazing patterns down the glass. Nice spice and moderate low noble hops. I enjoyed this starter to the flight!

Bottle. An almost clear one, pale golden in color and with a small, dense, white head. The aroma is quite banana-ish, with some spiced, peppery hints and a touch of citrus zest. It’s dry and medium bodied, with an appropriate carbonation level. Nice bitterness in the flavor, with some resins and pine cones. Peppery yeast, banana and a faint touch of lemon too. Lasting bitter, piney and peppery finish with some banana. Too much hefeweizen-ish on the nose especially, but it’s a quenching and quite nice beer anyway. 150622

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma is full of classic Belgian esters with a lot of over ripe stone fruit, pear red apple and lighter bubblegum. Some light citrus including lime. Medium light pepper phenolics. Pours a cloudy, yellow gold with a large, pillow white head that exhibits decent retention as it recedes to a small head that lingers. Medium light lacing and small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with a light character and grain note. Light citrus notes including lime. Medium light fruit esters with light pepper phenolics. Moderate bitterness and a medium light mineral note to the water. A hint of honey. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, another alright American made classic Belgian saison. Easy drinking but lacking anything special and the fruit esters might be a bit over powering.
