Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yards’ Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. It’s delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style.

Draft at Golden West Cafe. Poured a sightly clear golden yellow color with a medium sized, creamy white head. Aroma was light spice notes, some floral notes. Citrus character was nice. Sweet malts. Light funky notes - nothing crazy, but pretty tasty.

Pear and banana nose, lemongrass. Fairly clear golden, thick lacy head. Full body, lacks carbonation, warm. Apricot and lemon. Grain husks on the back of the palate are actually not out of place. Drinks a bit heavy, not super refreshing, but enjoyable.

Tap at Birroteca. Cloudy amber, pretty sparkles, offwhite cream. Citric light flowery nose. Creamy sparkly mouthfeel, fruity base, apples, pears, mango, grassy finish, a hint salt.

12oz bottle split in 3. Hazy orange-tan. Funky orange, some odd tropical undertones. Peppery. Not a perfect Saison, some sugary sweet malt tones, not so zest of effervescent. Pineapple-lemon-herb flavors. OK.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/22/13, Palindromic Rating #2992

Aroma: The nose has Belgiany-type yeast, pepper/spice, some citrus rind, and light funk
Appearance: Pours a hazed bright orange color with a small white head and light/drippy lace
Flavor: The flavor is medium sweet and plenty spicy, with a light funk, and mild bitterness
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a lively carbonation, and a dry, spicy finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid beer. It has a pretty nice nose/flavor, a solid feel, and a nice drinkability. It isn't an exceptional beer, but it is plenty tasty.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($6): Pours an orange colour with a white head. Aroma is barely saisonesque; instead, it is mostly like a sweet and fruity Belgian Ale. Taste is much the same. This was good. It was refreshing and very drinkable, but ultimately, it was not particularly complex or novel.

Crystal clear golden coloured body with a light orange glow and a thin, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of yeast, wheat, sugars and tons of coriander seed with a bit of curacao. Light-bodied; Sharp pungent malt at first with some metal, malt, wheat, yeast and a bunch of curacao and lemons. Aftertaste is quite bitter from the malt, metal, yeast and a touch of hops, with some other grassy notes and a little sweetness at the tail end. Overall, a strong beer that doesn’t show off to be such a bad beer - but one with a lot of flavour that doesn’t necessarily translate to great flavours, especially for the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 23-May-2012 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Upstate New York on 26-May-2012.

Had the early 2007 version quite a while ago. Looks like a good hefe in the glass. Somewhat metallic farm instrument aroma. Taste is bright, lots of sharper bitter stuff going on there. Good carbonation. Goes creamy during the session. Lots of bitter unripe green odd citrus rind thing doing it to ya. Good overall experience.
