Saisons were originally brewed to keep farmhands happy and hydrated during the warm summer months. True to the style, Yards’ Saison is a semi-unfiltered Belgian style ale brewed with distinctive Belgian yeast. It’s delicate and fruity with a subtle spiciness. Styrian Goldings in the kettle lend a touch of hop to the palate, balancing out this highly drinkable version of the classic style.

12oz bottle pours a lightly hazy deep gold with a lacing, creamy white head. Nose is very floral, very sweet, melon, rose petal, yeasty esters, banana, clove. Flavor is sweet, malty, a little grass, something a touch medicinal, honey, banana, spice. Full bodied but dry. Too much yeast, needed to be toned down a bit.

Glowing blonde with a firm, lasting white head. Yeast, light banana, some clove, and other spices make up the aroma. Highly carbonated body adds a hefty bite on the tongue. Flavor is much like the aroma with a bit of lemon zest, as well. A solid saison that is quite refreshing. Wouldn’t hesitate to pick one up when in need of a saison.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Rated 4/16/10. Pours a hazy orange-peach color with a white frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of coriander, bubblegum, yeast, nutty notes and a very faint hoppiness. The taste is very spicy withy notes of bubblegum and an herbal hop finish. Medium bodied. Decent but just a tad bit odd.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a vibrant caramel-amber color with an enormous creamy yellow-white head. The aroma was strongly peppery and must with notes of lemon zest and light spices. The flavor was tangy and dry with a strong notes of sugar and candied pears and hints of ginger, pepper and underlying mustiness. The finish was long and dry with notes of pear and pepper. The body was thick and full. Well done.
