Dump Truck Summer Bock is a slight departure from Bayern Brewing´s usual celebration of Bavarian tradition. Though it is brewed using the old-fashioned decoction mash brewing method, Bayern has created another beer style totally unique in the Northwest. The recipe for this light, unfiltered, lager bock beer uses German sauermalt, organic Montana “Spitz malt”, Pilsener malt, plus three hoppings using Hallertauer Perle and the rare Tettnang aroma hops (both imported from Germany). Dump Truck uses a yeast strain, specially formulated in Germany, to make this beer a rare experience - like the one Jürgen Knöller, Master Brewer and President of Bayern Brewing, had on one of our company rafting trips. He learned (first hand) that a Dump Truck is when the raft flips, depositing all contents not tied down into the raging river. He thought this would make an excellent name for this beer, invoking summer fun and the unexpected: like running a Class VI rapid.

Very nice, ever-so-slightly hazy golden coloured body with a thick, three to four centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of grass, honey, flowers, biscuits, dry malt, some oranges and lemons - very nice and incredibly aromatic - especially from the floral side of things. Light-bodied; Strong wheatie flavour at first that shows a light graininess along with a touch of citrus notes from the lemons and oranges, but the strongest components are the floral notes (tea - such as chamomile and jasmine) and a ton of honey to add to the sweetness here. Aftertaste shows a lot of easy-drinking wheat and floral components with a little dash of dryness from some subtle hops - but this is crisp and very easy-drinking. Overall, this tastes much more like a wheat ale versus and lagers, and that's a good thing, but the honey and soft floral notes make this very nice to drink, especially in the relatively hot summers up here in Montana! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased from Super One Foods in Kalispell, Montana on 26-July-2020 for US$1,67 sampled in my hotel room here in Missoula, Montana on 28-July-2020.

On tap. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow with a thin, white head that leaves spotty lacing. Faint, sweet aroma of grain and bread with light fruit. Sweet flavour of bready malt, corn and light yeast with a dry finish. Light to medium body with a watery texture and soft carbonation.

Tap at OBF 2015. Pours hazy light gold with a light white head. Bready aroma. Near medium body. Flavor is pale malt, grass hop. I’d call it bready, sweetish pilsner. Drinks ok tho.

Some sweet malt in this - a little sugary. Pours gold. Fizzy carbonation. Astringent and a little bitter. Mostly adjunct malt taste. Bottle thanks to Travlr.

12 oz bottle into lager glass. "Best before Feb. 2011." Thanks to Brenn79 for this. Pours a hazy yellow with a small white fast-collapsing head. Smells of quality grain (not adjunct), citrus, caramel, wet basement. Has a bittersweet taste and a grainy flavor. Finish is bitter, hoppy and dry; alcohol is noticeable. Carbonation is high, body is medium. Seems like it would taste pretty good in the hot summer sun.
