Most beers this dark are so heavy-duty, you could eat them with a fork. Not Session Dark. You've heard of tall, dark and handsome? Well, this black lager is short, dark and drinkable. With notes of roasty chocolate, it's the perfect complement to original Session - a dark beer that doesn't drink like a meal. Session Dark was named #1 in the "Top Ten List of lagers Brewed in the United States" and has nabbed 15 golds over the years, to say nothing of other shiny metallic colors.

Dark brown pour with a somewhat fizzy beige head that evaporates quickly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Subtle roasted malt aroma with a touch of hops. Light body with flavors of sweet chocolate malt, caramel and mild hops. The finish is short and toasty. Decent beer overall.

Heck yea, this is nice! Deep garnet color, tinges of purple. Full khaki head. Aroma is light and clean with coffee and chocolate and a very faint hint of roast. Balanced flavor with just a light caramel sweetness but otherwise dry crisp finish, touches of cocoa. Lingering flavor hints at toffee but never sweet.

Aroma: The aroma is fairly roasty, some caramel, chocolate, and a little earth
Appearance: This one pours a brown color with a slight red hue and a small head
Flavor: Tastes similar to how it smells, but the flavor comes off as a little sweeter and less roasty
Palate: This is fairly light for the style, it drinks nicely, with a fizzy mouthfeel and a lively carbonation
Overall Impression: I actually thought this one was a really solid Schwarzbier. It was better then I was expecting it to be. It drinks pretty nicely, and has a solid flavor. Nice stuff.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Chocolate syrup and resin aromas. Sweet dark caramel and milk chocolate upfront with a dry, lasting chocolate milk finish.

A dark reddish copper lager with a thin moka head. In aroma, nutty herbal chocolate,and mashed grains, rye bread. In mouth, a smooth nutty brown chocolate, coffee, a bit herbal and smooth. Bottle at ROC Empire Brewfest, Feb. 19 2011.

Pleasantly surprised, hides the 5+% well. Nice dark presentation from a stubby bottle. Dark beer leather aroma. Smooth initial flavors with mild odd choco and choc malt background. Mild CO2 is somewhat sizzly. Can’t really find any sense of alky in this brew and I like that. Friendly overall and this was a good beer experience. Odd mild roasty finish with is civilized. Very like-able schwartz that comes across like a mild american dark lager.

Bottle@Zam Zam Bar, San Francisco. Dark brown with a small tan head. Some roast malt and metal notes in the nose which was pretty uninticing. Very confused, rather thin flavour which again had a metallic tang to it and seemed to lack real direction. Some vague malt and chocolatey notes but nothing stepped up to the plate and shone really. Not something I’d want to session particularly. Forgettable.

Dark brown with garnet highlights. Small tan head. Sweet cocoa malt aroma. The flavor is sweet and nutty with a touch of hop bitterness. Nice roast malt profile. Very drinkable. What’s with the 11 ounce bottles tho?
