Most beers this dark are so heavy-duty, you could eat them with a fork. Not Session Dark. You've heard of tall, dark and handsome? Well, this black lager is short, dark and drinkable. With notes of roasty chocolate, it's the perfect complement to original Session - a dark beer that doesn't drink like a meal. Session Dark was named #1 in the "Top Ten List of lagers Brewed in the United States" and has nabbed 15 golds over the years, to say nothing of other shiny metallic colors.

Bottle, $1.40 from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown with half-inch of tan head. Aroma of slight nut, slight chocolate. Flavors of malt and a bit of nuttiness. OK.

lots of goodness in this little bottle. pours borwn, off-white head. Aroma of mild caramel, roasted malts, hints of dark fruits. Flavors, dark sugar, roasted malts, chocolate with a lingering sugary and bitter mouthfeel. Keeps a nice light coffee/caramel finish, hints of dark fruits with a touch of bitterness. Med-high carbonation.

Bottle: Pours a deep maple syrup colorw th a thin tan head. Nose is lightly of toast, nuts, and chocolate. Initially, I can taste some smokiness right away, but it fades into a roasty, chocolate, and bittersweet medley. Faint florals. This is alright. I could drink this regularly; especially after noticing the cool little rock-paper-scissors in each bottle cap.

Such a cute little bottle, but I am a little pissed off to be out that additional ounce - pours a dark ruby - moderate lace - aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, the faintest hint of smoke - light to medium bodied - semi-sweet chocolate flavors, but there is substantial roast and bitterness on the back end to balance it out - bitter chocolate lingers in the finish - nothing terribly complex, but very balanced and drinkable.

bottle, pours dark brown with a medium light tan head. Chocolate malt and mollassis aroma. Full bodied chocolate and toasted malt flavors end with a sweetness and burnt sugar flavor.

11 ounce bottle courtesy of kenb. Thanks! Pours a copper-brown color with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate and faintly smoky malts. Taste is chocolate, nutty notes, light smoked and lightly roasted malts and some gummy fruit notes. Smooth, light bodied, but not thin. This lives up to the name and is quite pleasurable.

11 oz stubby bottle purchased at Divino Wine and Spirits in Denver, Colorado. Pour is clear brown burgundy with a nice one inch tan head. Aroma is lightly roasted malt, soft cherry fruit sweetness and dark chocolate. There is also an interesting earthy / dustiness to the nose. Taste is the mild roastiness of the malt balanced really nicely with the mild sweetness, which expresses more as caramel in the taste than the fruit I picked up on in the nose. Palate is the highlight of this one, lighter bodied, super soft, and nice bright carbonation. Ends with a subdued hop bitterness, drying the finish out. Stupid drinkable. I really enjoyed this beer, I had 4 or 5 without even thinking about it.

Pours with a dark brown color and a halo white lacing. Aroma clean, lagered, wood bark and some musty/dusty (maybe getting a bit old) dark malts.. Flavor has a good non-sugar sweetness to it that really makes this Schwarz. Faint caramel in there and a light, easy drinking body to go along. Light sweet, earthiness sticks around for a little while. Some light non-descriptive hop bitterness in there to round it off.
Cool stubby 11oz bottle, coded 11/07/08, guessing that’s BB July 11th, New Belgium globe goblet.

Bottle. Black, though not opaque, head with a fine-bubbled soft tan head. Aroma of roasted malts with a hint of burnt malts. Chocolate, bread, coffee. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. The roasted/burnt grain taste turns metallic on the edges. Its grainy taste muddles the flavors, but only slightly. Medium body, smooth, slightly grainy, texture and lively carbonation. Quite drinkable and would be even more so with a bit more crispness. A nice schwarzbier.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours a rather darkish ruby with a slim beige head. Aromas of dark malt and chocolate. Medium body with firm carbonation. There’s some light fruit beneath the dark malt and chocolate. Rather refreshing. Good drink. Finishes towards bitter.
