Bottle: Poured a dark brown color ale with a super huge brown foamy head (quite a bit of a gusher actually). Aroma of dry caramelized malt with some dry toffee notes. Taste is also dominated by actually quite nice dry caramelized malt notes with some subtle notes of toffee and a generally quite dry finish. Body is about average with too much carbonation. Not too bad for an old ale that was past its best by date by almost three years.

A reddish copper ale with a thick frothy mocha head, gushed like a volcano. In aroma, herbaceous caramel malt with wild hops, light iodine notes, OK. In mouth, a nice tart caramel malt with light grassy hops, effervescent, a bit unbalanced, so-so. Bottle at 2014 Ottawa Xmas gathering.

Bottle from 2011. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a smallish yellow white head that shows moderate retention and minimal lace. The aroma is quite sweet with lots of caramel and brown sugar as well as a fair amount of dark pitted fruits and orange marmalade. Sweet dark sugary flavor is mixed with orange and dark sweet cherry and is cut with a touch of earth melanoidin and alcohol. Hints of smoke and roast round out the flavor nicely. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. I remember trying this fresher and it didn’t seem to meld well. With a bit of age on it this is a nice old ale.

Bottle shared by maniac. Thanks! Pours a clear dark amber color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Toasty aroma with notes of toffee, booze, apple, peaches and leafy hops. The taste is caramel, toffee, toasted malts, oats, some dusty notes and booze. Bristly mouthfeel, full bodied. Decent beer.

Bottle thanks to mar. Pours with a tan head that fades over a brown body. Aroma of brown sugar, toffee, coffee, caramel, cornmeal and cereal. Taste is burnt toffee, raisins, vinous, smoke and beets. Light bubbles.

Pours deep ruby black only when held to the light. Off-white milk shake head recedes to bubbles on the surface. Mild roasted malt aromas. Thin and worty upfront turning more full in the lasting dark caramel and smoked hop finish.
