This traditional ruby ale has a rich malty and fruity character, balanced by a well-rounded hop bitterness and a moreish dried fruit finish.

On cask up the White Lady.
Appearance - deep amber and clear with a creamy off white head.
Nose - plum going into prune with toffee and brown bread.
Taste - more plums, raisins and chewy malt loaf.
Palate - chewy texture, some sweetness and then roasty finish.
Overall - a bit gnarly but worth the persistence.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] A reddish copper coloured pour with a tight cream head; fruity aroma; tart fruity taste, but nothing recognisable- perhaps some pear and peach, then quite sharply bitter and warming. Unusual.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours deep chestnut with a medium sized foamy off-white head and excellent lacing. It has a fruity aroma with some old school hops. In the mouth it starts off sweet and malty but very quickly there is a little bitterness and autumn fruits. Later there are traces of bitter hops, raisins and roasted grains. Bitterness lasts into the finish. This is decent.

Wetherspoon Spring Beer Festival 2026, Beer#6. Clear deeper golden coloured brew. Easy enough hop-malt balanced brew, without significant flavours, some mild fruit mix in the mix.

5/3/2026. Cask at wetherspoon’s beer festival. At the Bell Hotel, Norwich. Good pour. Aroma is hoppy, malted, dried fruits, orange, citrus, dates, fruit biscuit. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Berry and mild tobacco notes. Bitterness develops more to finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Glowing deep copper with an off-white head. Strong raspberry flavour with toffee behind. Sweet up front with a mild, slightly minerally bitterness in the finish. After a promising start it finished being rather average and maybe a tad too sweet.
