A German-style hybrid Zwick’l bier. Unfiltered, complex, hoppy lager brewed with German Pilsner malts, and hopped with three kinds of German hops. For an American twist, a large dose of Centennial hops are added and then it is wood aged in medium toasted American oak. Bright, refreshing, hazy straw colored, with a nice hop bite and a lightly tart finish.

Draught at Tip Tap Room, 4/13/14
Copper-amber bodied beer has a high clarity and a small white head with moderate retention.
Toasted oak provides some strong acidity which is combined with the sweet pilsner malts to produce a sourdough-like note that is lightly sweet, moderately tart and quite unique. I had no idea this thing was oak-aged but it makes sense now. Was thinking they used a ton of acidulated malt to achieve the tartness, but I guess it’s all barrel-derived. Very interesting, with a strong maltiness but still well-attenuated and certainly crisp on the finish. Hops add some fruitiness, very light bitterness and just a hint of citrus. Medium bodied, firm carbonation and refreshing. Finishes with a buttered, toasted sourdough and honey mix that is just phenomenally unique and intriguing. Everyone was turned off at first and then was like, oh shit, that’s good I want more.

16 oz nonic type glass draft at Nachbar in Louisville, Kentucky. The pour is a hazed golden yellow with not much of an off white head. The aroma is sharp grain along with a bit of clove and some earthy floral yeast. The taste is sweet floral up front, followed close behind with herbal yeast and then finishing with cracker malt. The palate has an unfiltered mouth feel, a light body and a mineral earth potpourri finish. Different and interesting take on a style I enjoy.

On tap at Bangers and Lace. Pours a clear gold with an orange hue and a clean white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of earthy grassy and earthy pine hops that have a slight oak backing and a hint of grapefruit. Flavor has a good amount of grass with some resinous notes and backing sweet grain, oak and grapefruit. Really works.

Tap. Orange barley malt aroma. Golden yellow color with small head. Sweet orange barley malt and orange peel hops flavor. A very nice beer - a lot hoppier than is typical for the style but still a nice drinker.
