Originally brewed in winter of 2011 to help Snowbowl commemorate 50 years in business, this Wintermärzen was intended to just have a few runs. However, by popular demand, Bayern is offering this decoction-mash brew for more ski seasons. Groomer is now hitting the slopes in 12 oz. bottles and cans!

Bayern does not recommend drinking while skiing, though…you might spill your beer!

12 ounce can from the Outpost, 8/25/24. I know the name refere to grooming ice but it still sounds creepy. Dark red, large tan head, average retention. Aroma of toffee, raisin. Taste is cherry, raisin, toffee, bit of smoke. Well balanced.

Undated can.

Pours really dark brown/red, impressive head of foam, good lacing.

The nose is weak. Light bread, caramel,
little bitterness, which is expected.

The taste is equally so so. Light everything. Boring.

Good enough mouthfeel.

Glad I had it as a single at Old Chicago.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is dark fruit, chocolate, cola, nutty, grainy. Pours a really murky dark brown with a quickly collapsing off-white head--this is the second really dark brown beer in the Marzen style that I've had from this brewery, weird that they're going with this. Taste is lightly sweet, finishing dry with a nutty, roasty flavor. Very interesting, but not very Marzen-like.

Bottle picked up at Total Wine. A little out of season, but still hanging out in the seasonal section for pocket change. I’m in! Football season beer during a baseball game. Not my first experience of this type this year. Pours much darker than expected. A copper brown, with a patchy head. Soft nutty grain aroma. Flavor is pretty nice actually. Some nutty character to match the aroma. A pleasant malt bill. A lighter beer, but has a warming quality to it. Not the only one to feel like this little beer was quite the surprise. The flavor is very nice, and a very pleasant palate overall. Pretty good, and exceptional for the style.

12oz bottle poured into a mini willibecker glass. Pours [surprisingly] dark brown with a medium head. By looking at it I would guess its a Vienna or even Schwarz before Marzen. Head fades to a surface covering lacing. Aroma is toasty malt with some noble hop character and a mild wet brown bread. All very well melded, well attenuated, lagered malt sweetness. Flavor has more of the black bread touches and ends with a light lingering noble hop character. Perfectly clean, nice soft carbonation, sweetness from malt character only, very nice lagering. Clean, short aftertaste. This was a real surprise and a real treat.

Draft at the source. Hazy brown color. Aroma of tiast and cocoa. Taste has soma cocoa as well, and burnt toast. Decent.

Bottle. Dark leathery brown pour with a thin creamy khaki head. Nose is sweet; malty, candied fruit, and light chocolate. Crisp mouthful slowly turns to a bready and chocolate malt finish. Yeast, light fruit presence, and some earthiness. Refreshing.

Bottle. Dark red brown pour with thin lasting head. Malty and caramelly aroma, fairly light. Light bodied with a quick finish. More malt. Not bad.
