Dave Fafara, Roastmaster at Shenandoah Joe, right across the street from Three Notch’d came up with a special three roast coffee blend just for this beer. The coffee beans are cold infused allowing the fresh flavor and aroma to dominate without the acidity.
All of this is backed by a rich and hearty oatmeal stout with a great semi-sweet-baking-chocolate-like sweetness.

7 week old can A: Poured thick black like motor oil with 1 of crackling brown froth. Good retention and sheet lacing. S: Sweet milk chocolate, roasty coffee and a whiff of bourbon. T: Bitter and roasty with dark chocolate, fresh creamy coffee and just a hint of vanilla sweetness. Dry nutty ending. M: Fine but cutting carbonation, light body and a dryish ashy finish. O: Inviting aroma, deliciously complex flavor balance and lip smacking mouthfeel. A must buy when in Va.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish two centimetre tall rich tan or light brown head. Aroma of raisins, toasted malt, grain, light burnt sugars, a dose of earthy nuts and a light but noticeable amount of coffee (brewed) at the end. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong toasted malt and roasty nut flavour at first with a big dash of earth, caramelised sugars and a smooth, but moderate amount of coffee, with too much bitterness, but still fairly strong. Aftertaste shows the deep earthy flavours from the grain and the nuts, especially, but the caramelised sugars somehow outweigh the coffee notes and bitterness that are still present, just hidden a bit. Overall, an interesting beer that definitely hits as more of a brown ale or even and amber ale and not even as a Porter much less a full stout, but the punch coffee elements are definitely still there and show the bitterness, but the body and malt just isn't there. Not horribly recommended unless you want a brown ale with coffee flavours. I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 20-September-2019 for US$5,00.

On draft at the brewery it is a dark brown color with a slight ecru head. The aroma is roasted coffee and the taste is a string bitter taste of coffee with a very smooth coffee finish.
