The English know a thing or two about pale ale. West Coasters know a thing or two about having a good time. Naturally, we kept these facts in mind when we perfected the recipe for English Bay Pale Ale. Tradition is served in the smooth, mild flavour and caramel malt aroma, and that distinctive West Coast character comes through thanks to natural carbonation and careful maturing. The result? A real pale ale with will rise to any occasion.

Can. A clear, amber colored beer topped by a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is on the malty side, leaving little room for the hops. Caramel, some bread and a little fruityness. The flavor has bread, caramel, some fruity notes and a very vague bitterness, not managing to deal with the malty sweetness. Medium body, soft carbonation. Long, bready finish with some metallic notes. Not a beer I’d repeat, it’s not horrific in any way, just plain boring and uninteresting. And of course, the metallic touch in the finish doesn’t help. 150615

Draft - Light grains. Clear copper with a decent beige head. Very grainy, light sweetness and more grains. Not quite what I would expect.

What the hell do you do at the cottage beside steal your brother’s cold beer while you’re waiting for yours to cool down. (It was warm beers, or warm milk. The cooler can only hold so much and my kids hate drinking the resulting cottage cheese. The sissies.) Drank from the cottage-appropriate loon glass tumbler. Pour a caramel clear brown, half finger white head that reduces to spotty sheet. Cereal malt nose, little caramel touch of copper. Cereal malts, little hops bitterness, thinner on the palate, creamy carbonation mouthfeel. This beer is meh. Thanks Molsons, and I think my brother owes me a better beer for taking this silver bullet for him. Whatcha think?

Canette 473ml.

This pale ale poured a dark amber colour with a big, foamy, light tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of malt, cream and metal. First sip was watery with flavours of malt, light metal flavour and caramel. Finish is malty with a light hop tinge lingering.
