Not quite black, sooty oil brown with a greasy sheen. Thin cocoa head. Sweet chocolate cookie nose, dialed in. Taste is a back & forth of cinnamon & cocoa with a mild vanilla backdrop. I get zero ancho but that's okay. Semi-sweet leaning sweet. Mellow belly warmth. A flour-y & raw sugar sort of texture. Great.

Draft. A- Chilies, cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chilies, cocoa, cinnamon. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- 2 years ago I'd have told you this was outstanding. With the glut of mexican hot chocolate type of beers out there now, you really have to step it up to impress. This was certainly good but I wanted more. I hoped for some smoked notes out of the ancho chilies and a touch more sweetness. Didn't get much vanilla. Still very good.

On tap at The Arsenal, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out a fragrant mix of cinnamon, light chili, some vanilla and cocoa. Flavour is really wonderfully balanced between all the spices, with cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon and just a touch of chili. Sweet lactose rounds this out, with a soft palate. Excellent.
