Bouteille, 2014 vintage.

Sample at the Jackie O’s Staff Bottle Tasting Part 1 on 04/11/2015. Murky brownish-gold color with a medium light beige head that diminishes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and rye. Full-bodied with flavors of spicy rye, caramel malt and citrusy hops. The finish is moderately bitter with a rye and hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Deep hazy copper and bronzed coloured body, all with a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pungent rye grain with a very resinous and piney hop bite, some caramel and apricot sweetness and a lot of deep malt scent as well - very pungent. Full-bodied; Very dense flavour of rye, pine, grain, honey, figs, alcohol and pears - strong and pungent throughout. Aftertaste shows a good rich flavourful beer with a lot of rye noticeable, some light oak and dry herbal notes and a pungent hop bite showing mostly resin and pine. Overall, a well-balanced beer showing a ton of rye characteristics and perhaps even more sweet notes from honey and fruits, but the hop bite is still present and pungent - nicely layered throughout and not missing a beat. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom, Eye Street NW), D.C. on 27-August-2014 for US$3,49 sampled at home in Washington on 20-February-2015 just before leaving for the south for a weekend.

12 oz. bottle from Carlson. Pours dark orange, with a beige ring and some lacing. Some serious rye going on here, with some butterscotch and juniper. Sticky sweetness, with a light bitterness. Heavy body, syrupy, and thick. Overall, this is true to the name. Lots of rye, and low hoppiness. Not bad!

12 ounce bottle. Pours a bright copper color with a thick medium sized rocky beige head. Aroma is rich and sweet with notes of caramel and nutty grain. Lot’s of resiny hops as well. Sweet malt flavor is complex and chewy. Lot’s going on here. Thick and chewy sweet grainy malt. Notes of rye and agave syrup. Resiny hops with hints of pine and grapefruit. Earthy yeast undertones and warming alcohol come forward in the mid taste. This could pass for a hoppy barley wine. Best served warm and sipped slowly. Delicious.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 8/29/14
Aroma: The nose is spice/rye bread, resiny hops, sweet caramel, and some booze
Appearance: It pours a cloudy dark orange color with a frothy off-white head and fairly heavy lace
Flavor: It tastes rather sweet for the style, plenty of spice too, with a strong boozy presence
Palate: The body is fairly full, it is sticky on the mouth, with a boozy feel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: This isn't a bad offering, but it is just a little too sweet and boozy and not hoppy enough for what I wanted. The balance is a little off for my tastes.
