We decided to brew this beer after Rich and Dan visited Cologne, Germany, the birthplace of the Kölsch style. They loved the subtlety of the flavor and appreciated the craftsmanship required to make a beer like this consistent and good. We were on the lookout for a new summer seasonal at the time and the Kölsch, with its refreshing flavor and crisp finish, seemed like a perfect fit.
Description: Our version of the traditional German Kölsch-style ale. This beer, which is light and refreshing, appears to resemble a lager rather than an ale. The Kölsch style is a testimony to the broad spectrum of characteristics an ale can produce, as well as the brewer’s art. The body is soft and delicate with a dry, crisp finish.

Bottle. Not a good example of this style. Golden in color. Medium head. Aroma and taste is like a mass produced lager.

Little to no aroma. Pours amber with a heavy carbonation. Very crisp beer. Tastes like a sam Adams with a twist. Palate includes cloves and spices, grassy hop taste is subtle yet present in every sip. Good beer.

Clear pale gold color with a large white head and great retention. Decent lacing. Crisp mouthfeel. Smooth and clean lager flavor with a very light hop finish. I don't usually like this style but I like this one.

Bottle, clear gold color, mild lace. Aroma is grain, corn, mild hop. Flavor is lightly crisp, weak hop, indescribable hop bitterness. Light bodied.

Pours a golden straw from a bottle, grassy malty aroma is a little skunky, similar flavor but overly sweet and oily. Not good.

Bottle from Harvest Market, Bedford NH. Aroma is mild basement. Appearance is pale yellow with almost non-existent head with minimal lacing and fair sparkle. Taste is lightly bitter. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, lively carbonation and light bitter finish. Overall, not much to this. Admittedly, this isn’t a favorite style of mine, but I don’t think it’s terribly good within the style.
