The chill of a Colorado high-country winter calls for a beer with extra flavor and strength. Here it is. At over 7% alcohol, with a sturdy texture and rich flavors of caramel and chocolate, our holiday seasonal is the fermented equivalent of a good fire.

The ultimate winter warmer.

not the most unique or stong flavored christmas ale in the world, no big aromas or flavors, maybe a little cinnamon or brown sugar, fine but nothing special

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 1/26/11

Aroma: The aroma is fairly spicy with some roasted notes, malts, caramel, and nuts
Appearance: It pours a mostly clear mahogany color with a thin beige head and light lace
Flavor: The taste is similar to the nose with mostly cinnamon and other spices on the tongue
Palate: This one is medium bodied, the carbonation is average, and the duration is moderate in length
Overall Impression: This is a decent beer. It certainly relies mostly on malt/spice for its flavor profile, and it does a pretty good job of this. I think it works pretty well for the style, with a nice wintery feel, and since it is freezing cold outside and we are getting pounded by snow right now, this beer is hitting the spot pretty nicely.

I enjoyed this at Delilah’s 12th annual Winter Beer Tasting in Chicago, IL. Good, standard Xmas ale with a good malt to spice ratio. It didn’t particularly stand out at the tasting event that I attended.

Cask: Little aroma save for some light malt and savory roast pork which is more likely coming from the kitchen at this particular establishment. Opaque copper, thin sudsy head, some lacing. Very little carbonation even for real ale. Musty and dank cherry and plum skin. Subtle candi finish. alcohol well concealed. It’s ok, but really unexciting.

Thinks this bottle is from Archer Liquor. Pours ruddy copper with a good tan head. Aroma is a bit papery with dark roast malt. Medium body with average carbonation. Flavor is darkish roast caramel with chocolate hitting the tongue sides. Or so it seems. The chocolate malts make it a bit astringent. A non-spicey xmas ale. And not all that sweet. Good drink.

Pours a clear copper, with a smallish, sudsy lace - a fairly nondescript, but thankfully, inoffensive beer - nothing particularly bad, nothing particularly good - lightly estery, with equal parts bisquity and sweet malts - some warming spiciness and moderate alcohol - a bit of cherry and caramel - light bodied and thin for its strength, exposing a bit more of the alcohol than I would like - boring, but drinkable.

A dark brown ale with a thick moka head. A nutty aroma with light chocolate notes and hops. In mouth, a solid nutty malt, with light molasses, some British hopping. Medium bodied. On tap at Ballpark brewpub 24 Jan. 2009.

Dark brown coloured body with strong ruby tints on the edge and a decent sized tan head. Aroma of malt, cardboard, alcohol and a light amount of hops. Light-bodied; Mild malty flavour with some very very very light spices and some short hops. Aftertaste shows nothing much, just water and cardboard. Overall, a very mild beer not having much character - especially for this style and this seasonal! Avoid this one if possible, unless you truly must have every seasonal available to you. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Joe’s Place in Norman, Oklahoma on 13 January 2007.

tap at Trappeze in Athens. Pours a ruby - amber with off white head. Aroma is malty, dark fruits - cherries and prunes - and caramel. Taste sweet spices, dark fruits and a really smooth mouthfeel giving it a toffee - malty with notes of chocolate. Spices remain in the background with light notes of cinnamon. Finish had a somewhat red wine mouthfeel.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear ruby red color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of earthy and butter notes with leafy hops and a spicy finish. The taste is caramel, toasted malts, spices, citrus and a buttery note. Medium bodied.
