The road trip continues, and Dan Mumford is taking us to Edinburgh for our latest Patrons Project release.
Mumford’s beers have all taken inspiration from their namesake locations, not only for the incredible artwork on the label but in the liquid itself as well.
There are so many iconic flavours in Scotland that we could have worked into the beer but ultimately decided to pay homage to one of the country’s more underrated spirits, Gin. Scotland’s relationship to its salty coastline runs deep, and it’s Juniper strewn moors grow wide and vast. We’ve paired the saline with the savoury in a classically ‘Monk’ hazy IPA.
A trip to Scotland is nothing without meeting up with some local friends, and we’ve recruited the fantastic Moonwake Beer Co based on the Leith. They are a modern Scottish brewery, established in 2021, brewing balanced beers for all to enjoy. And of course we had to call in at the Hanging Bat and ask the Hanging Bat Brew team to join in the fun.

440ml can while watching Argentina vs England on TV. Pours a tight white head over a hazy pale golden body, spotty lacing. Decent aromas of lemony hops added by a spicy touch. Mixed taste of lemon, orange and herbal hops, lightly spiced. Soft juicy malts to the ending with far-away bitterness. Quite alright (Tromsø, 15.07.2026).

Can @ Herøya. Dirty, hazy deep golden body under a moderate sized white head. Aroma of citric fruit, minerals and a herbal touch. Taste is sweet malt, ripe fruit, minerals, lemon and cold herbs. Balanced body with a refreshing aftertaste. Nice take on the session NEIPA.

440ml can. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of herbs and berries, citrus. Taste is a blend of citrus, berries and some strong herbal flavours, quite resinous, piney, warming alcohol which is a tad unusual at just 7.5%, pleasant level of salinity. Medium bodied.
Interesting IPA, not really my thing but it's not bad either.

440ml can from Benny’s place, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy yellow colour with little life. The flavour is moderate bitter, aromatic herbal, with a smooth, fresh, juniper fruit that ,earthy, herbal big floral.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Hazy golden body with a thin white head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of berries and lemon sponge. Flavour of minerals, lemon and orange pith. Medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. A tangy and unusual IPA.

My Patron Saint Project Beer#15, today celebrating Saint Brendan, the Patron Saint Of Navigators through a Patrons Project brew. I'm navigating this strong but dominant citrus brew at Northern Monk. Although the taste is there, there's no citric bitterness about this one, subdued by the alcohol content, without this really impacting beyond its full body. It's flavoursome enough I guess.
