WinterBock is a strong, dark beer that was used by eleventh century Bavarian monks to help sustain themselves during winter fasts. These creamy bocks ensured that the monks would fast frequently. Gordon Biersch WinterBock is a classic dark double bock featuring 4 different types of malt: Munich malt, pilsner malt, dark roasted caramel malt, and black malt. This is a big beer with a lot of body, and is available seasonally from November through January.

0.5L dimpled mug draft at the Gordon Biersch in Leawood, Kansas. The pour is dark copper, brown, with some reddish hues. The head is tan, about one inch and decently lasting. The aroma is nutty malt light sweetness, soft hay, and general potpourri spice which is subdued and in the background. The taste follows the nose, nutty sweet malt, soft earthy hay and the yeast spice. The maltiness rich, and pretty layered. The palate is medium to heavier bodied initially, though it thins out a bit as it warms. Carbonation is soft, spice and yeast carry the finish. Masked the 7.5% abv well.

First ratingDraught at their name restaurant at Washington Dulles airport, on February 2, 2011Clear dark brown with hints of red color, tan head. Roasted, malty, fresh taste. Long lingering dry roasted aftertaste. Moussy mouthfeel, fairly high bitterness. Malty, sweet, fruity scent.Only bad part of the place I got this, which of course is nothing against the beer itself, is that they served the big version even though I thought you had to kind of ask for that since it was extra.7/4/8/3/15=3.7RerateDraught as part of a flight of 6 at the GB in Miami, on December 1, 2012.Clear very dark brown color, off-white head. Roasted, dried fruits, alcohol taste. Alcohol and grainy aftertaste. Medium to spritzy mouthfeel, medium bitterness with a bite. Scent of esters, some phenoles, faint acidic, also alcohol.5/4/6/3/11=2.9

draft pours brown, thin off-white head. Aroma and flavor, roasted malts, dark fruits, strong caramel/toffee presence, some spices. Nice compared to other GB beers but at some point the whole flavor becomes muted by the overpowering presence of the toffee/caramel mouthfeel.

On tap in my basement. Pours with a large, creamy off-white to light brown head and a murky amber brown body. Aroma of raisin, caramel, toffee, leather and chocolate. Taste is chocolate, cocoa powder, raisin and caramel. Highish carbonation with a somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Some alcohol noticeable. Best normal beer from GB.
