Mothman is a legendary moth-like creature reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area of West Virginia. After the collapse of the Silver Bridge, Mothman was never seen again. His spirit lives on in this darkly delicious black IPA, with a balanced blend of roasted malts and citrusy hops to enjoy on moonlit nights.

Can, thanks to Weihenweizen. Opaque dark brown with large spongy beige head, mocha/caramel aroma, low carbonation, slightly bitter roasted malt taste, somewhat thick body, medium bitter roasted malt finish. Smooth and more roasted flavor than hops.

Sample during the "Beer And Food Pairing" hosted by rogueone on 02/21/2016. Brown-black color with a medium creamy beige head that recedes steadily to a dense film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, hops and fruit. Medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, citrus and piney hops. The finish is malty up front with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Can. A dark brown beer topped by a small, dense, beige head. The aroma is pretty weak, lighlty yeasty, with some pine cones and roasted malts. It’s medium bodied, semi-sweet and with a nice carbonation, but it’s rather low on bitterness. Quite weak flavor too, but more pronounced than the aroma. Some roasted malts, a little piney, citrusy touch and some chocolate. Chocolate finish with pine cones. A nice beer, but not much of a Black IPA. 150916

No aroma. Mahogany, thin yellow head, good lacing. Baker’s chocolate, soil, and tree bark. A touch of diacetyl is detected. Frothy medium body, easy carbonation. Dry and not super hoppy.

On tap at B&D gastropub. Black with small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malt, medium body, creamy texture, and good small-bubble lacing. Taste is roasted malt and some herbal hops. Not as hoppy as many black IPAs, but much easier to drink.
