Bottle. Color: Black, no head. Taste: Very dry, dark roasted malt, smoke, notes of whisky and dark chocolate. Medium sweet, some bitterness. Hints of wood and licorice. Medium to above medium body, low carbonation. Not a bad beer, but lacking complexity, pretty flat.

33cl Bottle, bought at Winterbierfestival Wormer ’16 from the brewer. Black colour, thin beige-brown head. Aroma of liquorice, wood, some booze, roasted malts, slightly burnt, some caramel. Flavour is medium sweet, liquorice, wood, some hints of brownie, hard-roasted malts, light boozy, hint of resin, light herbal, firm bitterness. Medium bodied. Not very refined, but certainly tasty.

Black with no head. Aroma and flavour do have some light whiskey notes. It’s very dry and woody.

Bottle shared. Almost black with bubbly dark beige head. Ash, strong red wine, huge oak, lots of tannins, laurel licorice, raw cocoa, soft herbs. Very dry and woody with barely any sweetness but medium bitter. Medium bodied with dry feel. Hmmm, a bit too much.

Bottle shared thanks to Maakun. Near black with a bubbly beige head. Aroma comes across a little chemical upfront, before sinking into unrefined woody barrel notes, dark chocolate, licorice and herbal notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter. Above medium bodied with a surprisingly dry finish and soft carbonation.

Bottle @ cafe derat, large sample. Dark color, medium frothy head. Aroma of alcohol, mint, roast, peat, oak wood. Roasty bitterness, some malty sweetness and quite some peaty alcohol. Decent body. But not my kind of BA RIS.
