When we opened our production brewery in 2013, we made a commitment to making a year-round German-style pilsner.
Why? Despite the fact that these beers are time-consuming and technically challenging, we make this style of beer because we love Pilsner.
We import Pilsner malt from Germany and manually add 3,000 pounds to each batch one bag at a time because we believe that to make a great German pilsner, you need great German malt. We source hops from the Hallertau, the famed hop-growing region, which we prize for their mix of floral, herbal, and grassy notes.
And then we wait. This beer is unfiltered, so we rely on natural lagering — long times and cold temperatures — to get this beer bright as sunshine.
Hops: Mittelfruh, Hersbrucker, Mt. Hood
Malt: Pilsner

Reviewed from notes. Consumed 02/16/2019.
On tap at McGillicuddy's Irish Ale House, Williston, VT.
Appearance: yellow in color with a thin cap of a little white foamy head which slid off nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: hay/grassy tones, sweet grains, light bready vibes
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas together towards the bitter side initially but ends up bringing about a sly balance with the sweet side of the hops; finishes crisp with the hops
Texture: light bodied, sessionable; fairly smooth along the tongue; good carb level
Overall: pretty nicely done pilsner, I believe it leans more towards the German side.

Bottle. Not one of my favourite styles but this one is really good. Pale, gold color that’s hazy. Giant long lasting head. Aroma had hints of grains, bread and slight hints of nutty hay. Taste was extremely well balanced.

Breakside Pilsner 5.2% Straw gold with a sweet grainy aroma. Medium to light bodied with a dry finish. This is much more malt forward and sweeter than the summer pilsner. Nice enough but I preferred the summer one.

ON Tap at BitterCreek, Boise Clear bright deep golden with a sturdy thin blankey of bubbles. A bit fuller bodied and thicker than most pilsners but smooth and mellow. Just right noble hop pils kick at the end. Quite tasty.

Bomber from a Safeway in Seaside, OR. Aroma is grassy, latex, sour berry jam, clean. Pours hazy straw golden with a white head with decent retention. Taste is fairly bitter backed by some light cookie dough sweetness. Nice pils.

Pours at 2.9 celcius with not very much head, modest carbonation, foggy yellow body. Stenchy hoppy lager aroma, cabbage, lemon, kind of intruiging. Flavour is lemon champagne with hints of candy sweetness. Dry finish. Odd lemon soda hints all around this which I don’t like; but I’ll still finish the bottle.

As "Breakside Liquid Sunshine Pilsner" 22 oz.Bottle on June 26, 2015. From Hillsdale Liqour Store in Portland, Oregon.Clear pale straw yellow color, huge white head. Bottle keeps pouring head/foam long after opened. Light acidic, malty scent. Malty, light acidic taste. Acidic aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness.Could pour as slowly as possible into two glasses, still getting only a minute amount of beer in the bottom of the glass, the rest was head build-up. Bottle kept foaming over even though I poured from it as often as possible, until there were less than 25% left in the bottle. The way the bottle behaves, mixed with the character of the beer, I’d say there is a mild infection in this bottle.Still taste and smell decent enough.
