Deep dark brown coloured body with a rich, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of nice rich roasty malt, oatmeal, caramel, grass, pine and a good amount of lighter, but still assertive hops. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour of malt and caramel mixed with a big dose of grassy and citrusey PNW hops with a super rich earthy and sweet finish. Aftertaste shows a very rich almost chocolatey malt finish with a lot of sweetness, but even more hop bitterness - very good and very strong. Overall, a very nice Black IPA that borders on being an Imperial Black IPA, perhaps it is so - but it’s a very good beer, drinkable, yet assertive and strong. Probably the best so far of this numbered series of Gigantic beers, and one that I wish I had more of! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Pearl Specialty Market in Portland, Oregon on 26-April-2013 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 11-October-2013.

Bottle split at Endo’s, which I acquired from Gigantic, 26/05/13. Extremely dark mahogony brown with a thinnish tan head. Nose is hops, pine, bitter grapefruit, light roast. Taste comprises a mineral bite, bitter grapefruit, hops, light roasr, dusting of cocoa, good pine bite. Medium bodie with bite, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the finish. Top notch CDA!

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Black color, creamy head, beige. Very nice aroma, combining the hops with cheesy yeast. Very smooth mouthfeel, excellent flavor of roasted malts with some dark dry chocolate; the hopping manages to shine even in this beer, with lots of resins. Long final, balanced.
Very well constructed.

Bomber from LetsPour.com. Pours really dark brown with a big creamy tan head. Lots of mixed hop with underlying heavy coffee and dark malt for aroma. Could be bread or could be chocolate cake. It’s a nice aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is hoppy, darkly bready, and strongly coffee. Or strong coffee. There is a difference there. My tongue top is getting a mild burn, and it’s not heat. This is a beer with lots of quality ingredients. It tastes great. If I’ve got to go, drown me in a barrel of this.

650mL bottle, pours a near-black / dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma brings out dark fruits and roasted malts, atop some citrusy hops - fruitier nose than most black IPAs. Flavour mirrors this almost perfectly, with loads of dark roasted malts and dark fruits, counteracted by a medium-harsh hop character, finishing on a hoppy, roasted note. There is also a bit of chocolate in there somewhere. Not the most robust body, and actually rather mellow for it being an imperial black IPA, as it tends to be a rather harsh style. Solid stuff and very easy drinking for the style.
