750 ml bottle into chalice; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours moderately hazy deep ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big plum, blackberry, prune, raisin, fig, pear, molasses, toast, brown bread, dark candi sugar, clove, pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of plum, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big plum, blackberry, prune, raisin, fig, pear, dark candi sugar, molasses, toast, dark bread, clove, pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light dark fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of plum, prune, blackberry, fig, raisin, pear, molasses, dark bread, toast, dark candi sugar, herbal, clove, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and big robustness of plum, fruity/spicy yeast, and malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately slick, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice dubbel style. All around good balance and complexity of plum, fruity/spicy yeast, and dark malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

750 ml bottle. Deep murky brown with thick white head, strong retention in my Chimay chalice. Nose is very light Belgian yeast. Taste of dark fruits, spices, and a semi sweet finish with Belgian yeast being real obvious. Medium body with a fizzy, overly carbonated mouthfeel.

750 corked and caged bottle. Unfiltered burgundy-orange body. Steady, thick, creamy off-white head to beige head. Big plum notes in the aroma, sort of jump out at you. I generally associate plum with Quad more than Dubbel. This reminds me of the Ovila beers. Nice mouthfeel. Doesn’t blow me out of the water, but overall a pretty solid offering.

Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a murky dark brown color with an enormous foamy light beige head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was very bready and malty with notes of plum, toffee, cherry and a bit boozy. The flavor was tart and fruity with notes of cherry and plum followed by an alcohol presence and then toffee and malted milk. Medium length tart and fruity finish with toffee lingering. Medium body. Interesting.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy amber with a thick off white head. Fruity nose. Flavors of tart plums with some funky Belgian yeast notes. Effervescent finish.

Nice chunky, hazy rich brown coloured body with a violet and ruby glow at the bottom, all with a perfect, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, earthy and nutty malt, caramel, pit fruits, yeast, bread and a touch of flowers. Full-bodied; Rich earthy malt with a lot of yeast, bread and deep bitterness and some lighter sugars with a touch of spices and herbs at the end. Aftertaste is quite bitter with the alcohol, malt, earth, nuts, caramel and yeast especially coming through with not much complexity - just deep flavours and no relief. Overall, a decent beer - but a bit too strong and pungent, plus the large format bottle makes for a large drink, even if the label says 7.7%abv, it feels much stronger. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 20-November-2013 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 25-November-2013.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a small bubbly tan head. Rich yeasty dark malt aroma with notes of dark fruits and sweet plums. Some sulphury molasses, as well. Dryish, yeasty roasted malt flavor has a touch of anise and cloves up front. As flavor develops, rich notes of dark dried fruits emerge along with Worcestershire and stewed prunes. Cloying thick chewy malty finish. Rich and satisfying.

C&C 750 mL bottle from Beer Run. Pours a hazy red-brown color with a thin fizzy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of toffee malts, yeast, plum, raisin. The taste is yeast, toffee, plums, other stone fruits, raisin, mild anise and spice, mild hops. Medium bodied, decent balance, assertive carbonation. Solid beer.
