Day 2 of the post Xmas Bamberg Jolly, Cafe Abseits Tasting Can picked up at the bottle shop to the rear of Capones, Norristown PA, 25/01/14. Very dark mahogony brown with a moderatly sized beige covering. Nose carries a lactic ring, dark berry fruit, cocoa. Taste comprises earthy cocoa, dark fruits, toffee. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying closure. Ok stuff but little depth for the ABV, fails to deliver.

Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured a a thin dark brown - almost black with a large foamy brown head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was toasty, malty, woody and had a hint of licorice. The flavor was dryish, roasty and woody with a sharp but off note of cinnamon. Long dryish and roasty finish with lingering cinnamon. Medium body. Disappointing.

12 ounce can from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown color with a monstrous foamy brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Big chocolate notes in the aroma along with pumpkin, earth, earth, spice. The taste is chocolate, roasted malt, pumpkin, spice, caramel finish. Medium bodied, slight lingering spiciness, well balanced. Nice beer.

Pours black into a shaker. Mocha head with good retention recedes to nothing. Chocolate and caraway aromas. Slick with sweet chocolate and pumpkin upfront turning to cinnamon in the lasting bready finish.

New Beer Distributors, NYC can 12oz ($2.75): Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is spice, chocolate, lightly roasted malts, sugar, and a bit of cake. Flavor is nice. Slightly sweet. Not at all bitter. Body is actually quite smooth, a bit creamy, but not in a thick way. Quite easy to drink. Pumpkin spice adds a nice finish and aftertaste to the equation.

12 ounce can. Pours black as night with a thick creamy tan head.light cinnamon and nutmeg aroma with slight cocoa undertones. Sweet roasted malt flavor. Nuances of licorice, cocoa, cinnamon and cloves. Bittersweet chocolate and espresso in the mid taste. Smoky malt flavor in the finish. Very rich and flavorful, yet smooth and drinkable. Outstanding.

12 can from the He Said He Said 4 pack. Aroma is packed with pumpkin pie spices, candy root beer barrels, vanilla. Pours near black--actually an extremely dark brown/mahogany with red highlights; has a 2 finger beige head with good retention. Taste is mostly sweet but has some bitter and savory edges; roasty with lots of spices. No real pumpkin that I can detect, just spices. Foamy mouthfeel, medium to full body. All hail the pumpkin king!

Can from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, and sweetly medicinal. Med + body. Flavor is dark fruit, cinnamon?, menthol? - fairly different flavors. Maybe some evergreen. Weirdly different, maybe not close to style, but it’s an ok drink.
