22oz bottle thanks to Toby pours out amber copper color topped with a small head. Nose is nice big sweet pit fruit malts toffee and some bourbon barrel notes. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts pit fruit dates some spice and a light bourbon barrel vanilla note.

On tap at Hunah Day. Pours a cloudy copper with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is dark fruit, rye, bourbon, wood, candy sugar. Medium body, rye, bourbon, wood, caramel, candy sugar, boozy finish, very good.

22oz bomber courtesy of Homer321, thanks Sean. It pours up with a murky amber body that has thin copper edges and supports a thin light tan head. The aroma offers up a nice mix of sweet prunes and figs to go along with a smooth sweet modest bourbon note and a sliver of vanilla. The taste begins smooth and it quickly gets into sweet prunes, figs, raisins and molasses. It then picks up a modest smooth sweet bourbon note that adds just enough to the experience. Great barrel contact time here. It gets a bit earthy at times into the finish. Nice sipper.

Sampled this Horizontally with the BFM Version of this beer 2011 Bottle Crystal clear (no muddiness like BFM) ruby tinted brown coloured body with a strong rust and copper glow and a very thin tan head - showing more carbonation than the flat BFM. Aroma of totally different notes than BFM - cigars, scotch, whiskey, oak, vanilla pods, tobacco and a lot of earth really come out here - THIS is a barley wine. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep, strong alcohol flavour at first with a pungent earthy, tobacco and spicey malt flavour showing a great platform for pit fruits, peat and a little chocolate flavour. Aftertaste shows a great complexity with the typical barley wine flavours - oak, vanilla, scotch, pit fruits, earth and peat all come out here and play around the palate nicely. Overall, a much more representative barley wine compared to BFM - but a totally different flavour profile. Great to sample, especially horizontally, but these are totally different beers, and this one is a barley wine, if that’s what you want and/or expected! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Arrowine in Arlington, Virginia on 24-November-2012 for US$8.99 sampled at home in Washington on 22-June-2013. 2011 Bottle//Purchased November 2012//Sampled June 2013

Pours hazy medium brown. Almost headless, very oily appearance pouring. Aroma is nutty, with dates, caramel, molasses and vanilla. The flavor follows the aroma. Sweet, full bodied sipper. Some hop bitterness in this but for the most part it’s a malt forward type BW.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Oak Tree, 1/4/13

Aroma: The nose is rich caramel malts, with some bourbon, vanilla, molasses, and a little rye
Appearance: Pours a clear reddish color with a small beige head that leaves drippy lace
Flavor: This one is heavy malty, much like the nose component-wise, the caramel leads the way
Palate: This one is fairly full bodied, with a thickish, slightly sticky feel, and minimal heat
Overall Impression: This was a pretty cleaver Barleywine. Somehow it sits there with minimal heat at 10%+. The caramel malts dominate, and the bourbon barrel aging adds a nice component. Rather good stuff. I'm glad I tried it.
