20/XI/15 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ home - BB: n/a, but bought only 3 weeks ago at the brewery (2015-1630) Thanks to Mathieu and Barbara for picking this one up for me!

Clear blond beer, creamy irregular yellowish head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: dry, herbal, bit grassy, citrus, floral touch, nothing sweet though, some coriander. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: citrus, grassy, bitter touch, coriander, dry. Aftertaste: bitter, hoppy, grassy, some coriander, spicy, fruity touch, banana, very good saison, a very nice style example, well done!

22oz bottle poured into St. Augustine chalice. I think this was bottled about 6 months ago. I only got this beer because I am ticking Pike (and I sort of, kind of, mmmmm, like Pike). I have been putting off drinking it because of the uninspired (and sweet) Tripel. The beer pours a dark golden color, completely clear through out (read: filtered). Aroma surprises me by NOT being overly estery or sweet. WOoooo!!!! Aroma is bitter, dough, faint sweetness, grainy character, a little candi crust. Flavor has no bubblegum or banana. Lots of good bitterness and herbalness in the flavor. Not sweet but strong bitterness and thick bread malt. A little light lemony character at the end of the flavor. Really surprising and I like it.

Draft pour. Pours a dark gold with a unique sour apple aroma for a saison. Light ape flavor with some spice. A unique saison overall. Not bad, but definitely not what I expected. Pretty good.

Bottle @ Jon’s place on the 4th. Pours a cloudy yellow orange with a creamy off white head. Aroma has slightly dank, piney hops in the nose with fruity yeast, tropical fruit, and orange citrus. A touch tart. Slightly earthy, bitter hoppy flavor. Bready yeast. Lemon citrus. Fairly high bitterness. Kind of interesting but could use some work.

Draught @ The Pike Brewing Co, Seattle, WA

Pours clear golden with a smooth head. Aroma of floral hops, crisp maltiness and earthy yeastiness with some spices. Taste is floral hoppy, spicy and yeasty with some earthy notes. Finish is hoppy and yeasty with some lingering bitterness. Okay hoppy saison.

Bottle - thanks glkaiser. Full disclosure - I am not a big Pike fan, so I was a bit predisposed to not like this one perhaps. Pour hazy amber, small white head, great lacing. Aroma is yeasty, grass, lemon grass, black pepper, grain. Flavor is the same, light sweet, zesty bitterness. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Finish is a bit zesty-metallic, but otherwise this ain’t bad!

500ml bottle. Unfiltered orange-tan body. Soapy, steady, respectable off-white head. A really nice, pronounced aroma, very Belgian. An interesting, potent mixture of Belgian yeast and hops. I’m generally pretty critical of US Saisons, and while this one isn’t in the Dupont vein, it has that bolder robust fruity/spiciness, this is quite solid. The extra hops are nice, and make it sort of reminiscent of Belgian IPA. Has a very nice amped up dry noble hop character. Funky and unique, would be a fun beer to revisit.

Total Wine, Fairfax 650ml: Pours orange with a white head. Aroma is grapefruit and pineapple. Taste is hoppy and bitter like an IPA. There is barely any saison funk in here, well maybe a little farmhouseness, but not much. Lots of fruit, some sweetness, and a bit of dryness. If there is any saison in here it is in the aftertaste and finish.

22 oz bomber courtesy of bvc. The pour is a light haze orange golden, with a smallish white head. The aroma is strong citrus fruity herbal, floral, with phenolic yeast. Behind that is wheat grain, and a general grassiness. The taste is hay grass up front, followed by the citrus fruit herbal, with wheat towards the finish, and a touch of fruit in the back. A bunch going on in the taste. The palate is medium bodied, a low level of carbonation, and lingering grain yeast finish. As the beer warms, the after taste reveals just a hint of pepper. Thanks for sending this my way Brandon.
