Bottle. Not much of an aroma beyond a malty smell. Nice dark brown color, with a great smooth taste after initial sip.

Draft. An enjoyable, tasty session beer. Clear amber color with a small, but persistent head. The nose is malty with hints of grass and a slight earthiness. The flavor starts sweet with mild caramel with a touch of bitterness. Smooth and drinkable. I thought this was more flavorful than several of the cask ales I sampled.

12 oz bottle - pours up a frothy, moderate, long lasting head, dark amber color body. I only detect some slight bitterness. If anything it could use a little more, but it’s pleasant enough and a good session beer. I admit a soft spot for Smity’s because it was my most frequent session beer on a vacation to Ireland.

Bottle. Malt aroma with hint of molasses and tin. Reddish brown with moderate head. Tangy malt flavor with some sweetness - high carbonation but a bit bland and watery.

Draft, at Reilly’s Daughter, Midway Airport. Deep amber color. In a proper Irish pint glass it raises a thin, stoutlike head, just a little more bubbly. Maybe it’s just because it’s 8 a.m. in an airport bar with the odd scent of pine boughs, but this is as flavorful an amber as I’ve found. Malts are caramel roasty. There’s a well developed hop that just puts a nice bitter pucker in your mouth. Everything else I’ve had from the Isle has been a stout, so it’s a nice discovery to find a hoppy Irish beer. I thought this would have been somehow diluted as this seems to be getting the same push as Pilsner Urquell did last year, but it’s a really rich brew.

on tap-Pours a clear amber-copper with a big, off white head. Smells creamy-malty and lightly sweet. Taste has a crisp maltiness and a bit of hops, although I didn’t care for the taste that much, not quite up to my expectations from comments most of my buddies have made that enjoy it.

Pours a dark amber with a musty, grassy aroma that is a bit weak. Flavor is a bit disappointing, caramel and slight hops come through as does musty/grassy flavor from aroma. I was hoping for a bit more umpf from this one, but it is still a nice beer, albiet a bit bland.

Not very attractive, a watered down looking brown, a little like creme soda - but with a huge fluffy head and heavy lacing. Aroma is mild, some caramel malt, some herbal almost spicy hops, probably kent golding. Flavor quite similar, mildish. Carbonation surprisingly low for such a huge head producer, but that’s OK, the mouthfeel tended towards being almost pleasingly soft. Tending towards unbalanced bittering hops in the finish.

Clear orange-red body, thick puffy off-white head. Dry, toasty aroma with just a slight hint of fruit. Bitter. Flavor reminds me a bit of Guinness with a roasted, somewhat metallic astringency damaging the palate. Relatively bitter and grainy, very dry. Just a touch of caramel/fruit at the end of the bottle when the beer had warmed significantly. Definitely not one of the best Irish Ales out there.
