Draft: Poured a coppery orange amber with an off white head. Aroma is malty, boozy. Taste is sweet malts, fruity, figs, raisins, light boost.

100mls at Craft Beer Market pours a clear, burnt orange, ring of off white head.  Nose doesn't have a ton, malt, earthy notes, some date.  Flavor follows.  Yeah its a barleywine, but its lacking pop.  Finishes medium bodied and astringent.  6 3 6 2 11

Tap at Craft Beer Market Jinbocho. The last of a long evening. Amber coloured, no head. Aroma is malty, bit spiky, fruity, biscuity, slight creaminess, slightly boozy. Taste is well rounded, fruit, caramel sweetness and touch of spice. Pretty damn nice. Very smooth, full bodied, but subtle at the same time.

Bottle share @ Hansen's, thank you Tim (M) for this! Hazy amber pour with not that much foam actually there. Sweet bourbon caramel nose, light sweetness and some nutty toast with a bit of extra bitterness. Tastes sweet and caramelly, bit of booze and light caramel candy. Boozy but in a good and mellow way. Yum yum.

8.5% 550 yen for 180ml at 23 Craft Beerz, Nagoya. Cloudy amber pour with a minimal head. The serving glass was a spitting image for the GJBF best aroma glass sans logos. The aroma was malty sweet, some funk, booziness with a breadyness to it. Quite a light beer with an effervescent quality to the body which is unusual in a barley wine. The taste is malts: caramel, toffee fig followed by a bit of fruitiness with almost Belgian estery notes. It is pretty good but I’d probably class it more as an old ale rather than a barley wine. That being said it is still quite nice, smooth, easy to drink & well balanced.

Bottle at RBJG 2 Grand Tasting, thanks KyotoLefty. Brown colour with a very small white head. Sweet aroma of plum and alcohol. Rich flavour of dried fruits, plum, cherries with just a hint of alcohol.

very malty, cherries, bready, earthy, pie crust. Smooth, alcohol well hidden, rich but never cloying. Cherries and wooden finish. So rounded and smooth. Wow. Excellent

Draught at Keg Nagoya. Very pretty, deep red color with lace. Fruity, gumball aroma with some citrus. Flavor is hot alcohol, sweet stewed fruits, bitter hops, minerals and gumballs. Round and mellow body, but the alcohol is too evident and the beer is not integrated well. Want to try this again after a year’s aging.
