Light brown with a beige, firm, head. Smokey, bacon, wood, ham aroma. Flavor is salted ham, malts, smoke, and maybe a little caramel. Body seems a bit thin. A decent brew, but it’s a bit difficult downing a whole pint. Though, that may just be me as I’m not the worlds biggest smoked beer fan.

A lightly hazed dark amber ale with a thick off white head. Lightly smoked aroma with light lactic notes. In mouth, a silky and biscuitty malt with smoked peat notes, a bit lighter than expected. Overall, a let down. On tap at DDC, June 2009.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear nut brown, rich creamy head. Lots of beechwood smoke, like samoked sausage. Medium sweet and medium bodied with well rounded mouthfeel and low bitterness. Extrovert smoke, like Schlenkerla. Lives up to this icon like very few copies do.

Smoked so the Japanese palate can handle it, which means less than in Bamberg, but without any flaws. Great balance of smoke, wood, and caramel with just enough hops to bring it through cleanly. Good malt character. I like ’em just a bit more smoky, but this one is really well done.

This beer lived up to expectation, with a smoked malts balanced with halltertau hops. The body is malt accented and lightly smoked which leads to a slightly smoked dry finish. This is my type of rauchbeir, something that isn`t too smoked.
