Hoppy Boy India Pale Ale is the flagship beer of Twisted Pine. It has a rocky white head, hazy pale orange color, and hoppy citrus aroma. It has a dry, tart taste with an earthy bitterness. Cascade hops provide pleasant grapefruit and citrus notes. This classic American IPA is brewed with medium caramel malts that play off the citrus and orange rind hop flavors to make this beer most enjoyable.

Sampled from a 16 oz can this beer poured a bright orange-apricot color with a medium sized soapy orange-white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sweetish, a touch medicinal, yeasty and had a faint vague fruity hop note. The flavor was sour, malty and a bit medicinal with a vague fruity and piney hop presence and a touch of butter. Medium length sour malt and pine finish. Moderately full bodied. Disappointing.

Total Wine, Fairfax: Pours light amber/orange with a white head. Aroma is bland citrus. The taste is the problem. It has citrus flavor sort of, but no hop bite to it. Some toffee dirtiness. Very underwhelming and almost even unpleasant to drink.

Clearish, light amber coloured body with a copper tint and a decent two centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of metal, light hops, earth and a hint of sugars - not too much going on in the nose. Light-bodied; Grassy and floral hop bite at first with hardly any depth and no body - a bit of a metallic and earthy finish, but still no malt at all. Aftertaste, thin and grassy with some lighter hop notes, a bit of sweetness on the end from citrus fruit and very little else - no complexity at all. Overall, a sub-par IPA with no malt backbone, no complexity and only some herbal and grassy hops to speak of. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 02-April-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 20-April-2013.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Total Wine-McLean, 1/29/13

Aroma: The nose is fairly muted, but not bad, with some pine-style hop notes
Appearance: A completely clear orange color with a very small white head and occasional lace
Flavor: Flavor-wise, there's some pine hops, caramel, and fruit, it is light sweet and light-mid bitter
Palate: This one has a light body, it is a hint watery for the style, soft and clean, with a light dry finish
Overall Impression: This is the first beer from Twisted Pine that I have tried, and it made an OK first impression. Still though, I want a little more hop presence from my IPA. The aromatics are just not that exciting. The flavor is decent, and it is clean and easy to drink, but it also feels a little watery on the mouth. I'll sum it up this way: mixed at best, boring at worst.

From a 12 oz bottle at home. Pours a clear amber with a bubbly white head that quickly dissipates leaving no lacing. Pine resin aroma. More evergreen notes, along with orange zest and a hint of caramel. Bitter finish. A pretty decent IPA.

Rated at the 2012 RB Pgh May tasting. Clear pale yellow. First taste is big and bitter. Quite rude as with many IPA. Soapy, mouth coating. Dish soap comes to mind. Possibly old I’m told. Barely any hop aroma.

Hazy amber with a big fluffy head. Average hop aroma is accented towards orangey-piney. Mild bitterness and a bit of earthiness. Lacks brightness and style.

Tap @ brewery. Orange tinged, golden appearance with a white head. Mild piney, somewhat floral hoppy aroma. Floral, flighty soapy, light piney hoppy, quite bitter flavor.

12oz bottle pours deep clear copper with white head. The aroma is modestly hoppy with a mix of pine and citrus hops as well as a bit of malty sweetness off in the background. The taste has hop flavor and bitterness coming from pine hops, citrus hops and earthy hops that run right into the finish. Pretty tasty IPA.
