No other beer shows off what malts can do in a beer better than porter. Certified Organic Porter uses a complex blend of five malts that compliment and highlight one another in a harmonious mixture. Only one addition of imported Pacific Gem hops is used to provide a balancing bitterness without introducing any other hop character. While decidedly in the robust porter category, Certified Organic Porter has none of the harsh character people often associate with dark ales. Instead, what one finds is a rich, smooth beer with suggestions of chocolate and just a hint of coffee. So smooth and malty, this porter will convert even the non-dark beer drinker.

Cloudy dark brown beer with a red hue. Short tan head. Light dry palate. Minerally start with a trace of coffee and a whisper of chocolate. Finishes semi dry and with more of the same. A bog standard porter. Okay.

Bottled. Deep brown colour, mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is chocolate, some ashy and roasted malts as well as some dark dry fruits. Flavour is being quite much identical. Long ashy and chocolaty finish. A bit thin palate, but otherwise a quite pleasantly balanced beer.

Bottle, 22oz, courtesy of MiP. A clear, reddish brown beer with a creamy, finger-thick beige head. Coffee and burnt malts on the slightly buttery nose. Chocolate butter cream flavor with some coffee and a dash of dried fruits. Full body, quite dry. Coffee-like finish with chocolate and some buttery notes. A quite nice one, but maybe a bit too much on the coffee and creamy chocolate. 100814

Bottle at GBBF 2010. Black, very dark brown. Some good choc on aroma. Soft dark fruits too, but mostly choc. I rather liked it.

Bottle. Blackish brown beer with a reddish tinge. The aroma is slightly malty and roasted. The flavour is more deeply roasted and malty than the aroma. Overall a nice roasted and mildly malty porter.

bottle - Pours near black with a one finger tan head and smells of dark roast malt with coffee. The coffee flavor comes through well in the flavor with some dark roast bitterness. Itβs a medium bodied brew and the roast flavors carry through to the finish. Solid porter.
