One of the most complex beers we’ve ever attempted. A blend of two barrel-aged imperial saisons – one black, one red – which has in turn then been aged in rum barrels, it is an enormous, intricate beer.
A baseline of warm, smoky raisin and plum, followed by punchy flavour elements coming to the fore – coconut, mint and blackcurrant. There’s a long undercurrent of treacle toffee, before the finish darkens to liquorice, star anise amidst a touch of honey sweetness.
Malts: Cara, Carafa, Crystal, Extra Pale, Flaked Oats, Wheat
Hop: Mount Hood

Bottle. It is hard to add anything to the commercial description of this beer - it nails the character pretty well. Tasty, interesting, rather sweet, sipper, but very enjoyable.

Bottle @ home. Quite a heavy one. Apple, appelstroop, alcohol, quadrupel, sweet. Still nice though, but I’d recommend sharing.

Abstrakt 19 is a 13% Imperial Saison (red & black blend) that pours a deep ruby black and completely still. A peaty sharp malt aroma with heat that toasts my nose hairs. Full bodied with a raspy mouthfeel. The taste is molasses, woodsy oak, chocolate and tangy red berries. Good stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
