One of the most complex beers we’ve ever attempted. A blend of two barrel-aged imperial saisons – one black, one red – which has in turn then been aged in rum barrels, it is an enormous, intricate beer.

A baseline of warm, smoky raisin and plum, followed by punchy flavour elements coming to the fore – coconut, mint and blackcurrant. There’s a long undercurrent of treacle toffee, before the finish darkens to liquorice, star anise amidst a touch of honey sweetness.

Malts: Cara, Carafa, Crystal, Extra Pale, Flaked Oats, Wheat
Hop: Mount Hood

Another challenging layered offering from the limited edition Abstrakt series. As usual the engaging dark tastes are there – raisins, prunes, blackberries, tobacco and chocolate. No one does the dark end of the beer taste spectrum like BrewDog Abstrakt. The nose also had a hint of cherry cola and molasses. A touch of sourness emerges as the beer warms up. A nice chalky dry finish. A slightly thin body and almost non-existent carbonation are characteristics of most Abstrakts, but they aren’t necessarily assets. Another good one, but not a home run.

Old rating from May 2017 - A gift from my wife & stored in my cellar for the last year and a half. It was far better than I expected, been the most power full beer I've had in my collection. It pours a dark red black colour with no head. Aromas of bourbon, rum, wood & roasted malt. Tastes of caramel, plum, bourbon, rum, licorice, wood & roasted malt. Aftertaste is of a mild bitterness with plum & rum. Excellent interesting Saison from Brewdog

Well stored bottle. Dark brown body without any head. Aroma has malt, dry fruit, soy and alcohol. Flavor like aroma, quite boozy and alcoholic. Mostly one dimensional and boozy, not very elegant.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with brief, foamy bubbles. Malty, spicy nose with notes of caramel, treacle-toffee, liquorice, star anise, coconut, vanilla, wood and a touch of bourbon. Malty, spicy taste with caramel, liquorice, star anise, vanilla, doughnuts, cacao, coconut, wood aged rum, raisins, treacle and a sweet and vinous finish with a mild bitterness. Full body, quite sweet. It's hard to pin this down as a saison, but it's quite powerful and complex, and really tasty. Very nice.

Historic rating from the end of 2015. 375ml bottle. Pours near black with a slim beige head. Aroma: dark malts, caramel, toffee, dark berries, cocoa, sherry barrel. Taste: moderate to heavy sweet, raisins, figs, dates, vanilla, brown sugar, candy sugar, just a smidge of saison yeast detectable. Full bodied, light carb, warming semi dry finish. Super complex but it's a stretch to call it a saison

The fourth one for our 7th wedding anniversary. Bottle 0.375l, bottled 1.7.2015. Hazy, dark brown colored. AROMA- rum, raisins, prunes, chocolate pralines. FLAVOR- slightly sweet at first, but dry finish, warming, prunes, pralines, rum, dry berries, dark caramel. Fuller bodied. Maybe a bit flat, still very good.

Bottle from deeps of my cellar. I think I've brought this one to the light just in time. Quite matured throughout time, sherry feels, plums, dark berries, dark chocolate. Great sipper.

Tap @ Brewdog Bar Brussels. Black colored. Malt, roast, licorice and a hint of vanilla in the aroma. Malty sweet roasty flavor. Well hidden alcohol. Dried fruit. Hint of licorice. Vanilla, cocos, rhum. Nice and powerful beer, not too complex.
