A Russian Imperial Stout is simply a stout with extra everything! Despite what the name suggests the beer was first brewed in 19th century England for export to the Russian court.
Our interpretation of this style is a brooding beer with a thick body and generous tones of liquorice, coffee and chocolate. A robust and complex beer best enjoyed in moderate amounts.

Bottle. Black body with a big, stable, dense, creamy beige head. Aroma has dark roasted malt, licorice, slightly sour, strong coffee and a little hint of vegetables. Not bad aroma, just slightly close to over the top I think. Flavor is medium sweet, dark, roasted malt, chocolate, hint licorice, balanced bitterness and spices. Well made, tasty, warming Imp. Stout. I bit robust, but stil really enjoable.

Bottle at home. Aroma is sweetish dark malt, mild roast, caramel, dark chocolate, liquorice, tobacco, touch of coffee with a hint of dark fruits. Flavour is pretty sweet with some roasty bitterness in the long bittersweet finish. Body is above medium. Not the most massively flavoured or complex Imperial Stout, but it gets the job done nicely.

bottiglia 33 cl, bel cappello di schiuma color cappuccino fine persistente, colore marrone intenso/nero, al naso cacao caffè caramello vaniglia malto tostato, in bocca è liquorosa cioccolato fondente caramello caffè vaniglia liquirizia note legnose e un sentore di salsa di soia, corpo rotondo, media secchezza, alcool ben bilanciato, carbonazione piatta, amaro accentuato molto lungo nel finale. Semplice senza fronzoli. Una RIS in ordine. c. Topbeer.it 17.01.2025

Bottle from House of Trembling Madness, online. Drank while watching Raducanu v Fernandez US Open final on the old box. Pours black with small beige head, decent retention. Aroma is sweet, roasty, treacle, coffee, dried fruits. Nice. Taste is dry, roasty, coffee bitterness, sweetness to balance, some dried fruit and liquorice notes, tangy bitter finish. Full bodied, soft carbonation. There is a lot to like in this beer, its an extremely solid impy stout. It lacked in an excitement that matched the tennis though. Still good.

Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, nuts and leather. Pours pitch black color with thin creamy light brown head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts with medium sweet and rich roasted malt with burnt note, following is dried fruity and woody, mouthfeel is warm alcoholic and mild spicy, while finish is pretty bitter. Full body, thick creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. My Poppels’ favorite…

On tap at Ölrepubliken. A more or less black one, topped by a dense beige head of moderate size. The aroma is quite smooth, with oat, roasted malts, coffee, some licorice and alcohol. Some burnt notes. It's very smooth on the palate, full bodied and lightly warming. Roasted malts, some burnt malts, dark chocolate, coffee, dried fruit and a touch of licorice and oat. Lasting malty finish. A bit too mellow this one, but far from bad. 240725
