Bottle from Paula. Pours copper with a slight beige head. Rich malt aroma. Rye? Full bodied. Flavor is very rye. It’s mildly non-dry, but there’s enough hop and roast malt/rye to render it bitter. Seems nicely balanced, and it’s very tasty.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a nice huge foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of rye malt with light spicy notes and some warming alcohol is well balance and enjoyable. Taste is not the most complex but is quite enjoyable with good notes of rye malt with light sweetness and a spicy finish. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol though some warming notes can be felt. Simple and very much enjoyable.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 11/9/11

Aroma: The aroma has some sweet malts, caramel, toffee, rye bread, and just a bit of booze
Appearance: This one pours a reddish-brown color with a small beige head and medium lace
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, lots of rich bread and malt flavors, and a light hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full, it has a somewhat creamy feel to it, and just a touch of boozy heat
Overall Impression: This was another quality offering from Harpoon's Leviathan series. Overall, I feel like I seem to rate the beers from this series pretty well, and this one is no exception. A very solid rye beer. I'd recommend trying this one.

A cognac amber with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, a murky sweet malt with light boiled veggies, a bit of spices, weird. In mouth, a smooth chalky sweet malt, treacle, with grassy hops, light cheesy notes, not bad. On tap at brewpub, Oct. 10 2011.

wow, really surprised to see such a low rating for this one, really enjoyed it. dark amber in color, aroma is of more a wet hop or fruity biscuity flavor, taste is pretty much the same, but the malt is not the star here, the rye spiciness combines with the fruity hops, and makes this so easy and enjoyable. delicious.

12 ounce bottle from Ashbrooke Liquor Outlet in Morgantown, WV. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized fizzy offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of rye, caramel and floral hops. The taste is strong rye notes, caramel, toasted malts, apple and other fruit notes. Medium bodied. Very slight alcohol warmth. Nice beer.

My least favorite of the Leviathan series so far +++ Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark red-caramel color with a medium sized tan head that left good lacing. The aroma was light caramel and vague spice with a bit of nut and cola and a strong boozy presence. The flavor was tangy and bitter with toasted caramel, pepper, hot peppers, cola, wood and an intense booziness. The finish was long and boozy. Fairly full bodied and surprisingly smooth given the alcohol presence. Ok.
