12/04/21 Single from Ingles. (Less than) two buck chuck. Pint glass @home. Pretty cascading, slow, tan head. Brown on black. Nose is mildy malted, toffee-ish & a bit phenolic. Cocoa, malted milk balls, Japanese milk coffee, just a wince of clean pine hoppiness. Gets sweeter & a little licorice shows up as it warms. Dusty, medium carbonation, slightly spirited alcohol, easy enough. I guess this is good. Certainly fresher than most other options in this style.

Date obscured bottle A: Poured 1/2 of dark tan fast falling foam atop a black brown body. S: Sweet scent of molasses, toffee, coffee and dark chocolate. T: Bitter roasty coffee dominates dry dark chocolate and herbal hops. M: Medium light, clean, dry and lightly powdery with lively carbonation. O: Nothing stands out but no flaws present either. Nice porter.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 1/31/2017. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of dark fruit, smoke, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. A bit too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, and toasted dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of dark fruit, smoke, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, nuttiness, toasted dark/brown bread, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6%. Overall this is a very nice English porter. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Nicely rich English malt complexity, light earthy hop balance, and restrained yeast fruitiness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
