Pint can - hazy amber - standard american barleywine a la Bigfoot Ale - sticky malt and highly bitter, resinous hop character - bright fruitiness through the middle as a result - it's a pretty decent Bigfoot clone, but it ain't no Bigfoot.

Pour is a clear amber with a large white head. Aroma is sweet malt and a surprisingly invigorating herbal hop. Flavor is a nice dry chewy malt with more of that herbal hop. Finish is caramel malt with a ever so slight alcohol presence. It has been a long time since I've had a barley wine but for an American version this was quite decent. Lots of sticky and chewy malt but the hops shined as well.

On tap at Tampa Bay Brewing, pours a cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy and caramel malt, with resinous hops, and a touch of toffee. Flavour is intense, with a mouth assault of resinous hops and caramel malt. For something so intense, it's not abrasive or harsh at all. Good stuff.

Draft at the original Tampa location. Clear ruby color with tiny head retention. Aroma is candied dark fruits, thicker caramel and a hop I can’t really place my finger on. The body is medium and the best from the sampler so far. The flavor has a huge amount of candied fruits. Sugar coated grapefruit, raisins, plums, with a mild floral type hop. Nicely done.

Sample at the brewpub. Dark amber color with a thin white head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel and fruity hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, ripe fruit and earthy hops. The finish is syrupy with a grainy malt and fruit aftertaste. Decent overall.

Raft at the source. Clear amber color, thick cream colored head, solid lacing. Aroma of caramel. Taste is pure butterscotch, slightly toasted.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours clear golden with small whitehead. Little lacing, light body, low carbonation, and sweet aroma. Taste is sweet floral grain and some alcohol. 100 IBU, is this a misprint? Surprisingly good for a barley wine (rating toward the end of my evening).

A reddish copper barley wine with a thin moka head. In aroma, burned butterscotch caramel with strawberry mash and maple. In mouth, burned maple syrup, intense alcohol, plum syrup, rather cloying and bizarre. On tap at brewpub, May 24 2010.
