Brewing the perfect ale is truly a balancing act ... Hazardous work you might say. With Hop Hazard our challenge was to hand craft a malt rich base that could counterbalance a combustible five-hop blend and still leave your taste buds with enough room to enjoy a unique, dry-hopped finish.

Had this walking down the street in Princeton. Very dark amber in colour. Smells hoppy, good balance. Taste is thick and viscous. Feels nice on the tongue. Also feels good on the breath - the cold air brings out the taste. Lots of foamy head.

12o bottle split. I had this when they first hit the MD market in the early 2000s, but never rated it until now. Murky orange-brown, oily beige head residue. Classic burnt caramel and earthy hop APA aroma, They definitely created a thick enough malt base, almost rye-like..lots of caramel. The hops have decent depth. Kind of awkwardly named and categorized, this isn’t pale or really too hop forward, more of hoppy brown APA. Not bad, not good.

Bottle. Hazy light brown color, small white head. Aroma of white pepper and cardboard. Taste is caramel, straw, lager. OK.

Bottle: Poured a light amber color ale with an average head with OK retention. Aroma consists of light dry caramel malt mix with some metallic and somewhat resinous hops. Taste is also a mix between a non-descript dry caramel malt base with some notes of resinous hops and a metallic aftertaste. Body is about average with good carbonation. There was definitely something off in that one and I am not likely to revisit anytime soon.

not a bad pale ale, just nothing truly new or different about it. more like an english pale/bitter with a definite malt base, a little sickly sweet, hops knock off the malt sweetness, but not enough to be upfront and center. decent beer.

My first NJ brew. Pours deep amber. Tastes only slightly of hops more of vanilla citrus and caramel. Finish is crisp and dry. Pleasant easy drinking beer

Bottle from Oak Tree. Lable doesn’t refer to dry hopped. It is unfiltered. Pours coppery amber with a significant foamy off-white head. Aroma seems floral and citrus. Med body. Starts with a little candied sweetness - caramel, then develops a little bitter, and finally ends bitter as the sugars depart. More like ESB than APA. To me anyway.

12 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine in Richmond, VA. Mixed case of beer for 12 bucks = awesome. Pours a hazy amber-orange color with fine suspended particles. Medium sized tight creamy white head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, toffee and earthy, floral hop notes. The taste is toffee, citrus and leafy hop notes, bitter finish. Medium bodied. Nice drinkable beer.

Bottle. Pours a ruby-brown with some creamy, off-white head. Pleasant aroma of lightly sweet hops and some citrus. Flavor starts off alright with some good, malty sweetness but then gets obscenely bitter - and without any residual sweetness to counter. The finish is dry and tastes like dirt. Also some pine and pitch. Very earthy. Some sips were better than others, but on the whole this was a little abrasive.

Big thanks to lilbeerdoctor for the opportunity to taste this....you ROCK! Pours dark almost like a porter and then there is stuff on the bottom of the bottle. Aroma is just cllean beer with a tad of hop floral. Thin creamy head. Big giant rude awakening on the taste buds which almost borders on IPA territory. Some burnt leather and wood in there as well. 6.5% kinda is in there but not in yer face. Roto tilling effect with each swig. Piercing bitter bang. One of the more bitter american pale ales I’ve tasted. Yep more personality than what you’d expect. There must be a style that is more bitter than a APA but a little less than an IPA, I see many of these coming thru here, new and all. Oily mouth coating and shortly soapy .If you are an IPA lover, better check this out. Long medicianl biter finish. If you love malty hoppy beers, ignore my numbers and give this a try.
