100% Michigan malt. 100% Michigan-grown hops. The ingredients of Harvest Ale directly reflect our interest in local agriculture and tradition.
The malt came from barley grown a farm near Shepherd Michigan, while the hops are sourced from our neighbors in nearby Hickory Corners, Hop Head Farms and from the MILocal Growing Cooperative in Williamsburg. The 2017 batch of Harvest Ale was dry-hopped twice and has a distinct ripe fruit and grapefruit hop presence.
Michigan-grown malt has a distinctive candied apple character that pairs well with the mixture of grassy and fruity hop aromas, yielding a very drinkable celebration of the harvest.

Last of the keg 1/3 of a pint at Dexters. Filtered glowing orange-tan, excessively massive white head that slowly fades. Quite creamy, the hops only really shine in the aftertaste. Mellow even heeled doughy malt backbone, the hops sort of take a backseat. hard to judge, probably more creamy with the massive head. Not really to my expectations, rather pedestrian, hops are barely there.

Hazy amber beer, good off white head. Softish palate with mild fine carbonation. Smooth creamy malt. Mellow noble hops, floral. Finishes smooth and creamy. Quite English tasting but done very well.

On the farmhouse side of style. Aroma of hay and herb, some malt and hint of citrus. Pours clear orange with great lacing, good head. A good dose of lasting bitterness. Medium carbonation. Tap at brewpub.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has some grass and citrus hops with a backing bread and grain notes. Flavor has sweet light fruit with grass and a hint of citrus with a backbone of sweet grain and bread.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a clear orange-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and malt. Medium body with flavors of grassy hops, sweet malt and citrus. The finish is hoppy with a mildly bitter aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at the source. Clear deep golden color, tiny white head. Aroma of subtle black pepper. Taste is spiced hay and straw. Not bad.

On tap at Eccentric. Body is deep orangish amber with little head. Aromas are a little bland, but some citrusy hops (oranges and lemons) comes through along with some dusty grain. Flavor is decent, but a little thick on the grainy maltiness and a little thin on the hops presence.

2003 version, 7.5% ABV. On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Poured a clear, dark red-brown color with a creamy, thick off-white head. Earthy hops aroma, with a touch of caramel. The flavor screamed fresh hops- strong earthy flavors and citric hops bitterness (i.e., the "rind" of a citrus fruit rather than the flesh itself) with tart notes as the beer warmed in the glass. Malt character is subdued by the hops, but there were underlying sweet caramels that balanced the hops assault. A real treat.

2003 on Tap at Eccentric Cafe. This year’s version is probably an English IPA. Loads of sweet caramel malt backed by a crisp moderately citric hops finish. Very lush, velvety texture, with a little bit of woodiness. Some tart flavors up front provide a nice complexity. Towards the finish there is a moderately sour, fluffy yeasty feel, almost resinous. Alcohol well masked. Some medium dark fruit flavors. Wonderfully complex, I want more. Aroma has lots of malt, piney hops, a bit of fruit and alcohol. Has a rusty brown appearance with a big creamy medium yellow head. Lots of lacing and quite cloudy. Rerate on tap again, eccentric day. Not nearly as good as I remember. Where did the malting go??? It left :( Seems very dry, moderately astringent, good hops, and still decent malt as it warms, but not what it was 2 months ago. Strange.
