Bottle shared by Jimmack awhile back. Pours brown. Nose/taste of spiced apples, muted hops, apple vinegar, spice and bad juice. Medium body.

750ml Bottle Pours out a hazy brown/orange topped with a nice sand head. A nice aroma of spice, yeast and malt. Tast of more spice and malt. Not all that Saison feel still around. But hey it was still preety tasty. A big thanks to Footbalm for this treat.

750ml from beastiefan2k enjoyed at my tasting 10/12. Pour is clear orange - yellow with pretty much no head. Aroma of cane sugar sweetness and not too much else. Taste does not have hardly any of the sweetness with a nice yeast spiciness and finishes with some peppery spice. Maybe a bit over the hill, but still a nice one. Thanks for sharing this retired gem, Eugene.

Well I had a lot of expectations for this beer and I was giddy as hell when I spotted it on the selves of a local whole foods. I pickedf up two bottles ran home and popped it open, err... I mean opened it. Basically, it didnt take much to take the cap off and the pop was kind of weak. Now I have heard that this is a regular occurence with this beer. However, it poured well enough with a small head into my small slightly curved goblet glass. Color is really murky amber with no clarity and a gelatin like appearance. Aroma is present, slightly fruity and a kind of soury sweetness. A BdG like malt presence with slight cookie dough. Taste is not watery but nothing really comes out. Its weird like that. Low on bitterness and average mouthfeel. Maybe this bottle has just been sitting around too long. The other one is up for grabs in a trade - first come first serve.

I am not a big saison fan but was intrigued enough to pick this one up. Sampled from a 750ml green bottle this beer poured a cloudy caramel color with a large yellow-white head. The aroma is sour, tangy and has light caramel and raisin elements. The flavor is sour and tangy with a strong butterscotch presence The finish is fruity and a bit peppery.

2005 bottle shared by SuIIy on 11/25/05 with JoshuaB and JoshuaH.
Pours an unfiltered, bronze-amber with light copper hues throughout. Perched atop is an off-white to beige colored foamy head, well-retained and creating plenty of lacing. Never dissipates completely. Tiny, natural carbonated bubbles rise lazily. Aroma gives off notes of fresh cut grass, dill, white pepper and a light dose of earthy, damp soil. Sweet almond cream, light bits of lemon-peel and vanilla with a large sweet doughiness that is very inviting. What really strikes me is the lack of spice, not your typical overly drying coriander/cardamon and thick, drying yeast. It is yeasty, but lightly so, and more delicate than most American saisons. The hops are gentle but very aromatic, giving a fresh green herbal and wet grass note.
Flavor begins with plenty of light caramel/pale malt sweetness, thick honey, juicy green hoppiness (sugar and herbs, spicy grass) and only light pepper and a touch of lemon-lime citrus. Throughout the flavor, the well-done yeast, which begins much stronger than the aroma would suggest, imparts dusty, not-quite sour-like notes, bits of acidic moments at best, which balance well against the ample, creamy-sweet body. Ends equally well-balanced as it begins, with leafy-dry herbs/spices never getting in your face. Carbonation is light, tight and adds just a touch more texture than the creamy malt sugars give.
I don’t understand why these appropriately-spiced saisons are the extreme minority in American brewing.

I have really liked every beer in this saison line so far, and this is no exception - in fact, this may be my favorite of the groups - pours a murky golden color with slight copper tint and creamy, white head - lasting, sticky lace - citrus and herbs dominate the aroma, with grain and caramel malt far in the background to make things interesting - mildly roasty flavor, with the caramel malt making a larger appearance than I thought it would - apple, pear, cinnimon, nutmeg and various, unidentifiable herbs and spices - these, coupled with the soft carbonation make it a pleasure on the palate - supposedly, the brewers started making these saisons because of their love of brewers like Fantome, and I would rank these (especially this one) right up there with their wonderful beers.
