Golden Cap Saison is a modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse ale. A soft, pale beer, Golden Cap embodies the flavors and aromas of summer fields. Brewed with an ancestor of wheat called spelt, its straw-colored body, lively carbonation and a unique fermentation profile evoke fresh cut hay and cracked peppercorn.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 10/17/10

Aroma: The nose has some spice, clove, pepper, some yeast/dough, straw/hay, and lemon
Appearance: It pours a slightly cloudy golden-orange color with a fluffy white head atop it
Flavor: The taste is quite yeasty, its spice fronted, with a lasting lightly lemon flavor
Palate: It has a tingly feel (perhaps too much so), though it is pretty refreshing, and it has a solid finish
Overall Impression: This is a rather interesting Saison. It has a decent flow to it, and a solid enough balance. It has a pretty solid flavor. Maybe a touch too much spice to it, as it overpowers the rest of the beer a bit, but that is a small criticism. It is rather solid.

Sampled from a 12 oz bottle this beer poured a very pale yellow color with a huge foamy yellow-white head. The aroma was tangy, dryish and had notes of cardboard and must. The flavor was tangy and lemony and slightly musty with a faint wheat and pepper undertone and an off tangy presence. The finish was long, tangy, musty and a bit off. Medium body.

12 oz bottle purchased at World Market as part of their beers of summer mixed pack. Pour is hazed yellow golden with a loose one inch white head. Falls with nice lacing. Aroma is nice soft malt grain and wheat, along with a herbal clove yeastiness is nicely gentle. Decently integrated nose, nice. Taste is the nose, nice soft grain and wheat, paired with a (less gentle than the nose) clove herbal yeast. The herbal element is a bit strong for my tastes, but its still well integrated, and nice. Palate is a soft unfiltered medium bodied, with a nice natural grain aftertaste. Nice Saison.

Sampled at SAVOR 2010. Pours a totally clear yellow with a touch of spitty white head. Nice, soft nose, straw, candy sugar. Flavor is very sweet, floral, candy sugar. Medium bodied and a little chalky. More of a light tripel than a saison.

Somewhat lighter colored vanilla yella with a tad of a haze. Smell is somewhat farmy old wet hay water that has been sitting in a barrel fer awhile. Interesting bite of grassy wet citrus and some bitterness that fades rapidly, quite interesting. Decent amount of sizzling carbonation. Goes down fairly easy and is quite zippilly enjoyable, you’d never know this was a 7% beer, before I looked i was thinking maybe 4.5% or less! Hides its alky content in a goodly fasion. Overall decent beer experience. Finiish has a tad of alky bite but just barely.

12 oz. bottle, Binny’s, May ’09. Little peak of foam pops out the top of the bottle after opening. Pours golden, very slight haze, with a puffy white head. Light smell of wheat more than barley, with nice sweetness. Taste is light, a bit of honey with no sugars. Slightly creamy with a wisp of lemon. Taste is right for its slightly elevated alcohol level. One of the finer American saisons I’ve run across.

Courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Pours deep gold with a touch of haze and thin white head. The aroma is spices, wheat, a bit of bubble gum, grains and a thin layer of lemon. The taste has lots going on from lemon like acidity to sweet honey to spices and wheat and then followed up by grains and a sprinkling of yum. I really like this.
