Golden Cap Saison is a modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse ale. A soft, pale beer, Golden Cap embodies the flavors and aromas of summer fields. Brewed with an ancestor of wheat called spelt, its straw-colored body, lively carbonation and a unique fermentation profile evoke fresh cut hay and cracked peppercorn.

12oz bottle. Hazy yellow-tan color with a minimal, patchy, oily head. Sugary sweet aroma with a touch of herbs. The taste is sugary sweet malt with some tangy undertones. Slight peppery finish. A little closer to Belgian Saisons than some of the wacky-ass examples I’ve had this summer, but still lacks the subtle depth of the authentic stuff. Pretty decent beer nonetheless, with a broad spectrum of flavor.

A lightly hazed yellow saison with a thick off white head. In aroma, a nice spiced wheat with cloves, berries, light solvent notes. In mouth, a refreshing silky saison, with cloves, light bananas, and oily finish. Good and clean. Bottle at Mondiale 2009.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA.Pours a clear golden amber color with a large frothy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is caramel and bread with lots of dense, heavy stone fruit notes. Taste is grassy hops and grain with red apple, light spice and a caramel finish. Overall fairly thin.

Tap. Poured a clear gold with a white head and left nice lacing. The aroma consisted of sweet notes, fruits and flowers. Flavor was nice with a combination of malts and fruitiness.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy gold with a medium white head. Cloves seem to be the sole element of the aroma other than perhaps a slight mustiness. Flavor is cloves up front with green apple, some floral hops, and a bit of biscuit. Also has a moderate alcohol presence. Fairly astringent on the tongue. I’d like some more complexity.

Pour is a bright but cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is some dry malts with some yeast. Flavor is a bit of pepper at the start then follows a very mild citrus. Everything is kind of low key in this beer and nothing really stands out to put this one over the top. Still worth a try as this is my fav style.

Bomber. Hazy yellow body with a frothy white head that disappears quickly. Sweet malty aroma of biscuit, honey, lemon, wheat and flowers. Lightly spicy. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Peppery alcohol taste with some grassy notes. Medium body with a sticky texture. Mild carbonation. Overly sweet and under funky, but still an enjoyable saison.

Considering that this is New Holland, I was expecting the worst, but I am actually pleasantly surprised - pours a very hazy golden color - somewhat earthy, yeasty, phenolic and spicy in the nose, with notes of peach, apricot, wheat/grain - the taste is a wee bit sweet for a saison, but there are a lot of peppery notes, grassy/herbal hops, and a kind of flinty dryness at the end that do a pretty good job of balancing it out - through the middle of this, there are wildflower qualities, and quite a bit of peach flavor - lingering flowers and honey on the palate - pretty good, actually.
