Golden Cap Saison is a modern interpretation of a traditional farmhouse ale. A soft, pale beer, Golden Cap embodies the flavors and aromas of summer fields. Brewed with an ancestor of wheat called spelt, its straw-colored body, lively carbonation and a unique fermentation profile evoke fresh cut hay and cracked peppercorn.

Bottle at Mekong on 04/04/2009. Cloudy orange body with a medium frothy off-white head. Sweety fruity and earthy aroma with some faint spice. Sweet earthy and floral flavor with some hard to determine spices and a bit of orange. Medium body with high carbonation.

bottle - Pours golden with a slight haze and a one finger white head. The aroma is of citrus accented yeast and bready malt. The flavor is a sweet, biscuit malt brew with wheat and some mild citrus notes. It has a bubbly body and a clean finish with a touch of bitterness. It’s good though I’m getting very little of the farmhouse funk that sometimes is present with this style. It’s also sweeter than usual.

Super hazy golden coloured body with an orangish tint and a very thin white head. Aroma of curacao, wheat, corn, yeast, coriander seed and a bit of lemons. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong spicey flavour of yeast, wheat, corn and pepper all with an alcohol overtone. Aftertaste shows a ton of wheat and yeast - corn and coriander as well. Overall, a strong and flavourful saison, which isn’t the best thing - but still shows well. A bit lost on the traditional (hay, funk, perfumy) tastes, but hits decent notes on the rest. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 03-August-2008, sampled a month later on 07-September-2008 back home in Washington.

Cloudy yellow and a light pallet. Wheat nad lots of yeast in the aroma. Some citrus, coriander, fruit, and sweet malt. Drinkable enough but far short of the good Belgian examples like Dupont, Blaugies, or Fantome.

Rerate from 12 oz bottle. Wow! This has changed. Noticeable changes include a much thinner mouthfeel and a slight wateriness to the flavor with many of the same flavors (but washed out) and an astringent kick...

Bomber. There’s a nice story about flying monkeys on the back, so how bad can it be? Anyhow, pours a fairly transparent gold with a sudsy, white head of a finger and a half. Aromas are sweet and light... honey and light fruit. Flavor s fairly heavy on the biscuity malt with some pear and honey side notes. The promise of a peppercorn-type finish is a little overstate... there is a bit of a spice to the tail end of it, but it gets covered up by the malty sweetness. The sweetness up front has an almost white wine or champagne edge to it.

On tap at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Clear yellow-orange body, medium off-white head. Sweet, fruity aroma with berries and spice, reminding me of a sharp cider. The body is very sweet, like drinking liquefied apple and lemon jolly ranchers with added spice. Weird beer.
