We’ve discovered through delicious experimentation the delectably roasty character that comes from adding coffee beans to just about any beer style. For this traditional yet worldly stout, the mild bitterness of the roasted coffee is balanced out brilliantly by milk sugar, adding a touch of sweetness and creaminess. Cheers to the artful coalescence of two highly artisanal mediums.

Several unique things about this formulation make the beer special, including the addition of San Diego coffee roaster Ryan Bros.’ coffee beans in the mash. We also use British mild ale malt as the base malt and the addition of milk sugar, which brewer’s yeast does not ferment. These components add some body and a touch of sweetness to the resulting beer. At only 5% ABV, some might expect this beer to be thin, but that’s far from the truth; it is a smooth and satisfying beer.

Bottle: Poured a black color stout with a nice brown medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral coffee notes with some light sweet notes. Taste is a mix of floral coffee notes with light sweet notes, some lactose with some light black chocolate notes. Body is full for style with good carbonation. Superb example of the style.

12 fl.oz. bottle. The beer starts deep and malty. Lots of coffee over a smooth milk chocolate body. Roast and mild smooth chocolate. Rich, deep and intense. Roast, caramelly lactic malt, great sessionable.

In der Nase Kaffee, deutlicher aber Schokolade. Im Trunk sehr mild, fast wässrig, Röstmalz, angebrannter Kaffee, leichte Süße. Ich meine auch etwas Zitrone wahrnehmen zu können. Durchschnitt.

Bottle at Cafe Sånn, many thanks to Torgeir for sharing. Pitch black body, low off-white head, dotted spots on the glass. Rich roasted malty nose with earth and coffee. Coffee and chocolate flavours together with modest impact of lactose. Roasted mid sweet malty ending joined by earthy bitterness. Medium bodied. A tasty, well-made stout. (Tromsø 15.07.2017).
