One deceptively spring like winter day, Brewmaster Dan walked home from the brewery, sat down to dinner and said, "Boy, there are some fat squirrels out there. They're running all over the place. I think I should brew a Fat Squirrel Nut Brown Ale." Deb agreed and so another beer legend was born.
100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to this bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone. When the going gets tough, remember to relax a moment and enjoy the "Fat Squirrel" in your neighborhood.

Purchased at Breeze-Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on the first Sunday of the NFL season after watching the Bears beat the Falcons, and after running a half marathon this morning. Appearance a rather dark, slightly cloudy amber with a rich, frothy, oaty off-white head that rims around the glass. Aroma is very nutty, there are hazelnut notes in there which is great with me, along with a touch of floral hops. Taste is really great, incredibly smooth and nutty, a touch of rich sweetness with a hint of bitterness. Also a bit ’chewy’, but that can be attributable to the nuttiness. I’m happy to have tried this, very good stuff.

Amber liquid with an off-white head that leaves little lacing. Carmel malt with much less sweet nuttiness than I’d prefer in a brown ale. A bit bitter, a bit sweet, but not enough in between. The beer isn’t terribly complex and could have a somewhat cleaner grain flavor. A tad thin. I found this beer a bit disappointing but far from bad.

12oz bottle pours a translucent copper brown with a thin, fading white head. Aroma is very weak, some light malts, slightly nutty, no hops. Thankfully the flavor picks up a bit. Malty and sweet, crackers, bread, biscuits and lightly nutty. Clean and crisp on the palate with some slight residual sweetness. Either I had a bad bottle or this seems to be a bit overrated for me.

courtesy of abents. Pours amber with off white head. Aroma is malty with light hazelnut nose, light hops with some esters. Taste toasted malts, nutty mouthfeel. Overall finish has good notes of the hazelnuts but also some hints of chocoltae and caramel. Possible ester palate with some faint fruity notes of dark fruits/pear in the after taste. At 5.5% this is an amazing brew, very drinkable.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden deep orange with a fully gone head. Light nutty and roasted malty aroma. Medium dry and roasted malty with light liqourice note and light nutty accents. Roasted malty and nutty finish. Nice one.

12oz bottle. Brownish-orange color with a small head. Minimal sweet malty aroma. Medium bodied, with a nice clean mouthfeel. Plenty of brown, nutty nuances to keep it interesting. Good hop balance as well. Watery finish. Overall, a very pleasant Nut Brown.
