1892 - William Grant bouwt de Balvenie distilleerderij in het verlaten Balvenie New House. Anno 2018 vergisten we Black Albert tot 15% en voegen die toe aan een stel fantastische whisky & sherry barrels van deze distilleerderij. Om The Balvenie DoubleWood te maken, neemt David Stewart MBE whisky die minstens 12 jaar in traditionele whiskyvaten, Amerikaans eiken ex-bourbonvaten en hogsheads heeft gelegen, en verplaatst deze naar Spaanse eiken ex-Oloroso sherryvaten voor nog eens negen maanden. De Balvenie DoubleWood single malt whisky dankt zijn karakter aan de rijping in twee verschillende houtsoorten. Elke fase verleent verschillende kwaliteiten aan de resulterende single malt whisky. De traditionele vaten verzachten en geven een delicaat karakter, het sherryhout geeft diepte en een volle smaak en de laatste paar maanden in onze vaten zorgen ervoor dat de whisky's harmonieus met elkaar kunnen versmelten.

6/6/2026. Bottle at the June ITFC beer share. Courtesy of my friend Jean-Baptiste, cheers! Great pour. Rich, woody, chocolate, dried fruits, fruit cake, roasted, whisky aroma. Moderate sweetness, boozy bitterness. Quite full bodied. Smooth, light carbonation. Very good.

Bottle from Tidens Farver @ Home. Pours black with a small brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, whisky, dried fruit, wood. Flavor is light sweet, roasted malt, caramel, sweet dried dark fruit, wood, little sherry, whisky. Medium body, soft carbonation, light sweet finish with a little warming alcohol. 170326

Frothy good mostly lasting head. Dark brown colour. Heavy malty and modetrate hoppy aroma-. Heavy bitter flavor. Long great finish. Creamy palate.

2018 bottle shared by one of the boys in Chapel Hill.
Dark brown pour with a slight russet hue.
Savory, mellow malt with a slight berry nose.
Vinous, strong brown ale with some heartier soot in the middle, creamer, spot of steak sauce acid on the tail.
Lovely.
I apparently rated this twice in the same night:
Dense matte black on brown, flat pour.
Earthy, bbq glaze nose.
Super sweet, marshmallow, aged hops, sharp bourbon bbq sauce;prickly.
Dense, slow sipper, burns. Tasty package.

Bottle: Poured a deep black with a tan head. Aroma is rich roasted malt, smoke, boozy, woodsy. Taste is super boozy, sherry, roasted malts, roasty, lingers around the mouth.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, whiskey, some nice (dried) fruity notes, and a touch of liquorice. Flavour is mild to medium sweet with a little bitterness and booze in the finish. Drinks quite below it's hefty 15%. This is really quite to my liking, such wonderful balance between Stout and barrel.
